Replacing car seat after a crash

A car bumped into us this evening when we were driving. There’s barely any damage to the car - does anyone know if we need to replace our baby’s car seat? I know you should after a crash but wasn’t sure if we needed to as it was low speed with little damage, but equally appreciate you can’t always see the damage to a car seat

General car seat safety says to replace, even if it was a tiny bump. But I’d say at your discretion. If it was a small bump I probably wouldn’t replace it

Your insurance can replace !

I rear ended a mom with my own daughter in my car last year 🙃 I was going 15 thank God but still I tapped her bumper. Her work needed was less than $130.00 I overly apologized that didn't know my daughter was running a temp later that same day at the time she was just belligerent mess in the backseat & 30 min drive to her daycare I was exhausted & turned to look at her without realizing I took my foot off the brake, I slammed on the brake after I hit the woman in front. Needless to say I have insurance she does, no issues just sucked for both of us & we bonded actually over keeping our carseats in secret 🤣🥰

It depends on the car seat manufacturer. You have to check for your specific seat.

Replace the car seat with the insurance and get the next stage that you’re going to need. Most car seats overlap weight/stages so you can probably use straight away, and you get the next one you need for free.

Their insurance pays for replacement seats. I'd get new ones just incase, especially since it's at no cost to you x

Thanks everyone. We need to check in the morning when it’s daylight but there’s pretty much no damage to our car so we may not need to go through insurance, or should we do it just to try to get the car seat through insurance?

I'd replace your seats whether you can see damage or not, it's not worth the risk to your little one

If you’re in the US there are actually only like 3 states where insurance is required to replace your seats. But if the manufacturer of the seat requires it, you can try showing that information to insurance to try to get them to replace.
