What’s your school commute like for whatever school you’d like?

I have submitted, withdrawn and resubmitted our application about 8 times now 😂 Husband did a drive by at school time to a couple of our options to check them out (we don’t want to send him to the school that’s a short walk away so a drive is the only option- annoyingly 😞) and I’m just curious as to what amount of time others are preparing to spend on the drop off/pick up?

If I send Arlo to breakfast club about 15 mins drive/drop off. If I drop him at normal time probably about 30/40mins x

School one - 20 minute walk (3min drive) School two - 34 minute walk (5min drive) School three - 4 minute walk (2 min drive) School 3 is actually more convenient for us but they proved to us that they where shite with SEND children with my eldest so we actually don’t want that school BUT it is also our closest school and closest Catholic school (all choices are Catholic) so we added it as our last choice to avoid getting a school a trek away or non Catholic :)

The one I want most is the nearest, only about 7 minute walk. I really hope we get it, it’s very popular unfortunately!

We have only applied to 1 school and its a 5 mintue walk.

@Robyn is that 15 mine just to get him there, and then another 15 home/however long to get to work?

@Amy lovely to have 3 in waking distance! Though I can only imagine the whining if I tried to get Reuben to walk for 30mins- especially going at his pace, we’d have to set off an hour early. 🤭

@Catherine Good luck!

@Violet Amazing that your local school also happened to be the best fit for your little one! I expected that to be the case for us, but sadly not!’

@Chloe Tbf I don’t drive but we would be dropping her to breakfast club or to a childminder to do the school run! But she loves to walk hahah!

@Chloe yeah just to get him there.. with school traffic though will be about 30mins just to get him there. So if I needed to drop him off for breakfast club at 745 I'd need to leave at 730. Then for normal time 845, I'd need to leave about 815

@Robyn Yeah, the traffic adds a considerable amount to ours too! We’ll be using wraparound care after the first few months, so it’ll hopefully be a little bit easier- and the parking situation is a nightmare 🫣🙃

Choice 1 is about a 10minute drive Choice 2 a 15minute walk

Takes us around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic

I do the school run everyday! It’s about a 5 min drive then a 5min walk as we don’t park right near the school to avoid the crazy parents who’s little darlings can’t walk in the cold/wet/hot etc

@Chloe yeah it is a good fit and he already goes to pre school there. He has all his friends that he will move up with.

Eugh I feel you! Bring on the 15th so we can’t any longer haha. Our top 2 are both 5 mins in the car about roughly 15 mins walk. But I’ll need to drive due to going to work after, but the parking is giving me anxiety already 🙃

@Sophie Yea- I need someone to take it out of my hands now. Although, I’ll be in the Swiss alps before/ on offers day. Way to potentially ruin a holiday 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 YES- the parking anxiety is real!

I have such bad parking anxiety already about starting school!! Our choices are either a 10 min drive or a 15 min drive (likely to increase to 20-25 with traffic) and a 5-10 min walk - they’re all one way as I’ll then be on my way to work afterwards x

1st choice literally 4 min walk down the street 2nd choice 5 or 6 min walk. Other 2 choices will be a drive but 5 mins. Ahhh it's been so hard. So our first choice used to have bad reviews but now really good. Our 2nd choice is a Catholic school where always wanted to send him. Not because it's Catholic even though I grew up in Catholic schools but had great reviews. Now it's done a total reverse and wasn't too keen when had a look around for preschool. However I wouldn't be too disheartened if he did have to go there. 1st choice have great send support and 2nd don't. We know a couple who had to remove their son from 2nd choice because he wasn't get the support, now thriving. Oliver doesn't have send needs , nursery haven't passed on any concerns but have thought maybe he has some sensory needs and school terrifies me as totally different routine to his wonderful nursery. 3rd and 4th were just because were asked to put 4 down but have heard quite good reviews. Xx

First choice is 10 min walk 🤞🤞 2nd is 10 min drive. I just don’t wanna do that whole trying to find a space to park every morning. It’s stressing me out just thinking about it!

Walking distance thankfully
