When did you give your child hotdogs for the first time (cut or not)

I’m having a debate with my child’s father. I say 17 months is too young. He says it’s fine if we cut it small

I have a 14 month old. We just cut it up. She’s got a lot of teeth and if she takes a big bite or something is too much for her, she will take it out of her mouth herself. Rarely, if ever do I have to intervene with her.

I've not given my little girl hot dogs yet because it's not really something we eat often but she has had regular sausage just quartered length wise. She's only 9 months.

I do take the skin off, depending on the type of sausage/hot dog.

Mines had sausages since about 8 months, as long as they are quartered lengthways absolutely fine (although be mindful of salt content!

Hot dog is one of the leading causes of choking. Not worth it. Wait. My sister is a er doc and has pulled many a hotdog from a child’s throat!!

Around 10 months

I haven’t yet, and my daughter is 16mo. Her dad had a friend whose kid choked to death on a hot dog… ill stay away from them as long as possible

It’s not a healthy food, but we offered some thin cut pieces before she was one.

My guy gets them at dayhome and she cuts them. He loves them but I haven’t given some at home because we never eat them here

Probably never they are full of processed crap x

My daughter had one when she was like 14 months had no issues

i wouldn’t give a child a hotdog until they’re about 5/6 as i’m 27 and i choked on a hotdog in June so no way would i let a 1 year old have one unless diced up to tiny pieces😂

My 3 year old has never had a hot dog, cut up or not

As long as it was appropriately cut I gave my child anything and everything with no restrictions

About 7/8month. Whenever they had a couple of teeth just cut it up small.

Solid Starts says you can give from them a year but does warn they are a high choking risk. It advises how to cut them to minimise the risk.

It actually specifically says not to cut them small as that increases the choking risk. They should be cut long and length ways.

After the 12 month mark about 18 months or so I don’t personally do hotdogs too much but the photo above posted by Rebecca is the method that I utilize when I do

Never have, my eldest is 3, they're disgusting, even i dont like them🤣 x

I don't get these because to me a hot dog is a sausage in a bun. If you mean a super processed Weiner sausage, I don't eat those and neither do my kids. But I follow same advice for regular sausages ie cut in half or quarters.

Hot dogs are not meant to be ingested by the human body but you do you.

I first gave my child hotdogs yesterday and she is 19 months but i only felt comfortable because she was a few of her back teeth growing in and I also peeled the skin off

When in doubt use the solid starts app

My daughter is 2 and hasn’t had hotdog. I’ll probably never give it to her. Hotdogs are disgusting- nasty preservatives, listeria, and human DNA are found in hot dogs way too often. We try to eat pretty clean over here. If I won’t eat it myself, I certainly won’t serve it to my developing child.
