Solids

My son has been having a lunch meal for about 10 days now, when should I start giving him another meal? Or does anyone know a website I can look at to help guide me? I’m struggling to find the rythym with solids and milk. I.e - when to give the food before milk? He usually has a bottle every 3 hours but I feel like he might be ready for another meal soon so I don’t know how to navigate it all. Not to mention fitting it all around naps. Schedules would be super helpful. Any advice welcome 🙏

My baby has her first meal around 10am which is after her first nap, and that’s porridge, then she has another meal around 3pm which is pureed veg, this seems to be working for us at the minute but every baby is different. She has 7oz milk every 4 hours, 8,12,4 and then an 8oz at 7pm before bedtime. My girl seems to be hungrier in the afternoon / evening and doesn’t tend to care for her milk in the am and can be fussy with it, which is why I give her porridge with her formula mixed in just so I know she’s got something in her. I found her having the puree an hour before her last bottle before her bedtime bottle (if that makes sense) makes her more full and she’s sleeping better (don’t want to jinx it) at night again (atleast 10hours)

i’m breastfeeding, so everything i know so far is based around that. to my knowledge, baby should have milk first and then be offered food. this is so they fill up on the nutrients from milk which is what they need, and food is just for fun/routine at this age. as for upping meals, i would probably say to keep it at one meal for around a month to weed out any intolerances or allergies with adding more veggies/fruit/meat etc, and then add in a breakfast meal. i’m no expert though and constantly learning myself so apologies in advance if anything i’ve said is wrong! actually going to go and read some more now cos im second guessing myself 😅

How to wean your baby by Charlotte Stirling Reed is a brilliant book and will answer your questions - it has schedules, suggestions on how to add in more meals and recipe ideas in it too. Highly recommend x

I think the nhs website recommends 1 meal for a month then increase

Thanks all. Just can’t seem to find much online! X

NCT, Ella's kitchen and Emma's diary online should help. I believe around a month after you can add another meal but as it's just for fun before one it's more about increasing babies food awareness.
