Expressing during the night

Hello. I’ve been told by my midwife to express during the night every three hours whilst my baby is feeding as this is the optimum time to collect milk. If you do this, do you go and put it in the fridge after every pump?

Breast milk can only be out of the fridge for 2 hours so unless using it for the next feed within that time frame then yes I’d put it into the fridge after every pumping session so that it has longer shelf life x

I have a little tiny fridge in the nursery that I put my milk into at night. It's been a game changer.

Thank you!

I think it’s 4 hours breast milk can be at room temp so depends what time I do it. If it’s 5/6am I would then just take it down when I got up but if earlier then yes I’d pop in fridge x

I got told by midwifes when in hospital set up with a pump it was 4-6 hours max

This is from NHS Breast milk can be stored: at room temperature for up to 6 hours in a fridge at a temperature of 5 to 10C for 3 days in a fridge at a temperature of 0 to 4C for 8 days in a freezer at a temperature of -18C for 6 months
