Breastfeeding while pregnant

Has anyone asked their doctor about breastfeeding their baby/toddler while pregnant? I am switching OB’s and they wouldn’t give me “medical advice” over the phone. I continued to breastfeed since google said it was safe, only about twice a day as we are weaning. But I did have gestational hypertension with my first baby (no issues when I’m not pregnant). So I wasn’t sure if that makes my next pregnancy “high risk.”

My OB told me to stop breast-feeding. I am now nine weeks. I started weaning off four weeks ago. This week I’m officially done breast-feeding.

@Allison Was there a reason?

Mine told me it’s totally fine. I’m 9 weeks still nursing my 17mo old. Just told me to make sure I’m drinking about 100oz of water a day. Which has been hard. Obviously if you have complications this could change that advice but it’s generally considered safe.

They also said being pregnant can sometimes change your milk production or taste as you progress and that can sometimes cause the toddler to naturally wean on their own, but that has so far not been my personal experience.

My midwife’s advice was to decide whether or not I’d like to wean before baby comes by the third trimester so as to give my first plenty of time to adjust before the new baby starts nursing. But tandem feeding is an option as well, just not one I plan to do personally.

@Miranda Thanks! I have definitely been drinking 100 or more oz of water a day. It’s insane. If it helps my toddler wean that would also be great 😅
