Airport & travel in general

We have booked our first holiday with our 8 month old……and I’m so anxious to be going away At the airport am I allowed to pack snacks/food pouches from home to take through security & the airport with us? Can I take formula through (a whole tub or?) How did you make formula while away & sanitise bottles while away? Security- what happens with baby etc there? We are flying with Ryanair, says baby can have 5kg bag too…..is that check luggage or hand luggage? Help me one stressed mummy

I believe u can take formula through and some pre made bottles

I’m commenting to get some advice also as I too am travelling for the first time with my 6 month old. I’ll tell you about what I’ve been told. You’re allowed to take a flask with hot water through security to make feeds for baby and cool it down with the nuby rapid cool (if you have 1). I don’t know about the whole tub but I’d actually like advice on this also. You’re also allowed to pack snacks and food for baby too. I know if you’re travelling with a stroller. Depending on the airline and if it’s cabin approved you can take it all the way to the plane if there’s space and put it in the overhead compartment otherwise they’ll put it in the plane. You may wanna take a baby carrier to have baby in when going through security as the ask you to fold your stroller and put through their machine sometimes. With sterilising bottles you can buy the Milton tablets and sterilise in cold water. I’ve bought a retractable 5L bowl to sterilise my bottles while I’m away.

You might have to check with the airline about the baggage as I’m not sure about that. If anyone knows about car seats in Dubai I’d love to get a bit of advice on that and if baby is required to be in 1 when getting in taxis around the UAE.

You can take all food for baby through security. Allow plenty of time as you will most likely be stopped and they will go through everything: keep baby with you when this happens as they need to see that you are with child (there was a huge wait one time we went and my husband took baby though to change him and it was a drama until he came back). I took pre-made formula for the plane. We just take enough of everything to last a few days and do a big supermarket shop to stock up on snacks, nappies, wipes, formula etc. Re. Sterilising - I wasn’t too fussed at 8months, so I just poured boiling water over the bottles in the sink. I’ve only flown Ryanair to Ireland with baby (not further afield) but with that the 5kg bag was for cabin only. (But Ireland is like - 45 mins flight so maybe different rules!). We usually fly BA and babies get a checked in bag. Might be worth calling to make sure. It’s honestly fine - just allow yourself plenty of time to get through the airport.

You can take all pouches etc and fomula they just test them while away you make babies bottles with bottle water same as sterilising them with Milton tablets you carry baby through metal detectors with you and that would be hand luggage but call them and double check x
