With my first I worked until 37 weeks and gave birth 2 days later 🫠. This time I'm going to go off earlier, 35ish weeks so I can spend some time 1:1 with my toddler and enjoy the sunshine!
I’m taking from holiday at 37 weeks so mid July before my due date.
My first arrived 2 hours into my maternity leave so this time I’ll be going off 36-37 weeks
I’ve got to use annual leave up before I go on maternity, so will probably be off from around 37 weeks. However depends how I am at the end of pregnancy because I know a few colleagues struggled at their desks all day once they’d reached over 30 weeks x
Week prior to due date
I worked until 37 weeks with my first two. I'm a teacher so will be on summer holiday from the end of June then officially starting mat leave at 39 weeks when school starts back
I never went back to work after having my first
I'm thinking of going start July use hoilday .... but will have more of an idea in a few weeks after consultation appointment . Especially as i was induced at 38wks with daughter
Not sure if anyone else has thought about this, but if you’re planning on going back to work before 12 months and want to use the government funded childcare hours you may be better off going off on maternity leave first and taking holiday after. If you go on mat leave in July, your SSP runs out in April. If you return on the system by 30th April (you can then take the holiday you were going to take at the beginning to be off longer) you get the 30 hours childcare from 1st April. If you go back after 30th April, you don’t get them until 1st September. It’s a really big difference!
@Sarah isn't it only 15hrs for under 2s?
They also have to be 9 months before the start of term - so would have to be born at the start of July
Going off around 35 weeks using a/l until 38 weeks. I will be taking 48 weeks mat leave (partner is taking 3 weeks shared leave). Then I will take a month off using my accrued a/l.
37 weeks. Will use 2 weeks holiday and then mat leave. Having a planned section so I know baby will be early. I’m taking a full year mat leave and then holiday so I won’t got back until September. Finish 24th of July and go back 2nd of September. I regret not taking the full year off with my first. I know everyone can’t afford but if you can I definitely recommend it.
I’m same as Danielle - only took the nine months with first but already told partner I want the full year this time! It just goes so quick! 🥲🥲

I’m planning to go as early as possible - end of May (due August 10th) and then take all the holidays end of the year
I’ll be having a planned c section and my midwife advises this would be before 39 weeks! So plan to go off at 37w and use annual leave for the first two weeks! X
