I’m at the same point. My daughter only has her dummy for night and her nap but she’s become obsessed with wanting it during the day and it’s driving us mad because we don’t know why. She’s 20 months now and I also feel it’s too young for her to understand. We bought her a book at Christmas called ‘no more dummies’ to start planting the idea but doesn’t understand it yet
My little boy only has his when he is tired or asleep, but I was going to wait until he has all his teeth, as he uses it as comfort when he is teething. He will be 3 the week after Easter.
We put my daughters in an envelope and sent them to Santa (she was just shy of 2 years 5 months). She got a present in return. When he asks during the day just say no. Let him know it's just for nap or bed/don't take it out and about with you.
What is a dummy
We took dummy away during the day way before his second birthday I can’t remember exactly when. We have now got rid of it entirely at the start of the year so about 2 years 3 months old. I explained to him he was a big boy and he no longer needed it and we would be throwing them away (I held onto them incase it went real bad🤣) but it was cold turkey, no presents, no fairies and he hasn’t had one at all in over 5 weeks now. Distraction is your gold. Distract as much as you can when he asks for it and eventually he will forget and not look for it anymore!
We took dummies away in the daytime first, just explained it stayed in the bed. With my eldest we gave his to Santa when he was 2.5, my youngest was 2 in November and we’re thinking of doing it around Easter and giving them to the Easter bunny in exchange for eggs or something.

Any good books or ways to prep them for it also appreciated
