how did you kill the soother? (pacifier/dummy/binki/whatever you call it)

we call a soother a choochie in our house. how did you guys get your kids to give it up? my son is one and our doctor wants him to be done with it by 18 months. i love the idea of getting rid of it, i just don’t know how to go about phasing it out. what did you guys do with your little people? i’ve heard about the binki fairy, but he’s too little for that to be useful for us.

My nephew was stopped cold turkey and it worked, my sis in law just cut the ends of his dummy and he stopped liking them. He will pick my niece dummy up every now and then but he was told it wasn’t his and he finally gave it up

We redirected my neice, and used activities to help wean her off of them until she completely forgot about them

A few people poke holes in the end of them or cut the tip off, this works as the hole takes away the suction and it’s not satisfying for them anymore and they get rid of it themselves this way you’re not taking it from him he’s choosing to give it up, this is how we are going to try when our twins need there dummy’s taken away, as my daughter didn’t like dummy’s I didn’t have to do it for her so I can’t say 100% that it definitely works but I have heard from quite a few mums that it does so it’s worth a try x
