Flexible working request - has anyone done one?

I’m looking to try and spend a little more time at home when I go back, I used to be full time over 5 days (35hr week). Ideally I’d like to do a day at home but would financially struggle loosing a whole day worth of money. Has anyone managed to find a way around this? Im thinking compressed hours into 4 days but it does make it LONG days a week. What’s your RTW plan looking like?

I'm going back for 4 days, so 30hrs instead of 37.5

I'm going back 4 days like Rebecca

@Rebecca do you worry about how this will affect you financially

37.5 hours over 4 days, but thinking of dropping to 30 hours over 3 days. By the time I take into consideration my deductions and how they will be less when I drop hours, financially I probably won't be that worse off x

@Sophie I could probably do with a calculator to put in a variation of hours and see how that looks for me 🤔

You can ask your payroll department for advice on it and they will send you over an example x

I’ve just submitted a request (to reduce days rather than compress) We weren’t sure on finances either so we did a spreadsheet for it as there were factors like paying less tax, pension contribution etc, potentially less commuting costs, alongside increasing funded hours at nursery from September to balance out some loss of earnings So it took a little working out how much we would really lose to our income Fingers crossed work now let me reduce 🤞
