Progesterone advice

I had a bit of a scare today at 9 weeks. Woke up this morning and when I wiped there was some red blood and I have been having cramps and lower back pain. Went for a scan at EPU and all looks fine and healthy with baby and they don’t know where the bleeding came from. Due to a previous miscarriage I have been offered progesterone but after researching it I’m just not sure. There has been no more bleeding since I wiped this morning and I have read that a side effect of progesterone can be bleeding. I have been really struggling with anxiety around another miscarriage and just feel the progesterone would make me more anxious as I would not know whether the bleeding would be a side effect or possible miscarriage. Also the size of the pressaries and inserting them scares me. Can anybody on progesterone offer any advice? Am I being selfish by potentially not taking it?

Oh bless you, I know the worry too well. I had a miscarriage in December. In this current pregnancy I had bleeding at 6 weeks, scan showed a healthy looking baby and they prescribed me progesterone. They advised there may be a little bleeding from slight irritation, but I didn’t experience any. They also suggested this can be popped up the back passage (so any side effects will be separate from the vaginal area). Mine slip in easily, they almost seem waxy to help go in, it was a bit odd at first but now it’s fine. At the end of the day it’s completely up to you. I was just so worried of another mc I’d try anything. But I completely understand your nerves.

Progesterone is used in IVF pregnancies to help with lots of things in the initial weeks - I was terrified to come off mine as I thought my body really needed it to help my baby along but all seems ok! The pessaries aren’t that bad at all, messy if inserting vaginally but you get used to it!
