Strep b in pregnancy🤰🏻

My partner has had results back today from a swab he did on Monday and he’s tested positive for strep b. I’m now worried I’ve got it also and got to do a swab at the doctors tomorrow. Has anyone experienced strep b in pregnancy before? Really hoping I haven’t gotten it🤞🏻

I’ve got strep b and had it in my previous pregnancy too. No problems at all, you just get given the option to have antibiotics during labour! I didn’t get them in time with my little boy, we had a unmedicated water birth and came straight home with no issues. Hoping for the same this time too!! So many women have it without ever knowing!

@Charlotte this is reassuring! Hoping when I get my results back I haven’t got it, never had it before and I did a urine test at the hospital yesterday and it was all clear so hoping I’m gonna be okay but rather be checked and be safe🫶🏻

@Charlotte if I test positive for having it will I get given antibiotics now or just in labour?🫶🏻

@Libby-mae I’ve had them in pregnancy this time then you’ll be offered them during labour via IV! If it’s anything like last time though, I won’t have time to have them!

@Charlotte what Antibiotics do you get for it as I know my partner has been prescribed amoxicillin🫶🏻

@Libby-mae I’ve always been given Cephalexin

@Charlotte never heard of this before? Thankyou so much for your help and reassurance though🫶🏻

@Libby-mae Its really nothing to worry about x , you just get IV antibiotics in labor and baby observations gets monitored after birth every 2 hours for the first 24 hours

@Tinah I’m glad it’s nothing to worry about, I have anxiety over everything and Google doesn’t always help x

I’ve got step B! First time but I’m just going off info my midwife has given me. If you test positive for it during a wee sample, you can get antibiotics for it now. But if it’s picked up on a swab, then you have to wait until your waters break until you’re given antibiotics! Depending how much antibiotics they get into you from when your waters break to baby arriving, will then depend on how much antibiotics your baby then needs when they are born! You may have to stay in hospital for up to 24 hours for baby to have their antibiotics. You then need to be aware that symptoms can arise in the first 3 months. So as soon as your waters go, you need to go straight into hospital to get the antibiotics started! Xx

@Lucy this has been very informative Thankyou so much x

@Lucy was yours picked up in a water infection or a swab? Not sure if I’ve got it yet, I only did a urine sample at the hospital yesterday and that was all clear so if I’ve got it it’ll be picked up on a swab…hoping and praying I haven’t got it🤞🏻🫶🏻

@Libby-mae mine was picked up only on a swab! Fingers crossed for you lovely xx

@Lucy so have you got to have the antibiotics in hospital?xx

@Libby-mae yes! I’ll be given antibiotics as soon as my waters break xx
