Anyone else refusing sweep and induction?

I'm seeing a lot of people being offered sweeps and inductions, and I'm sure there are reasons for them, which makes total sensr, but it does seem they are just "normal" now. I have been offered both, I'm at 39w, because I have a raised BP and they want to mitigate it getting worse. I just feel so reluctant and feel like it's abnormal to put your body through so much intervention, sometimes unnecessarily. I dunno it just seems like why intervene? Let baby come when they want. Am I just being overly picky with this?

I’m 38+4 and will be having my next midwife appointment on Monday next week. I haven’t yet been offered anything like that, but I feel the same as you. Personally, I wouldn’t go for it at this stage but respect those who choose to.

It’s just personal choice isn’t it whatever feels right for you and your baby.

I'm at 40weeks and have declined it for now but will most probably accept one at 41weeks. I'm currently trying to coax him out the way he went in...as per midwife prescription 😂😂

My last pregnancy 2 years ago I let them do the sweep, then they booked me for induction the following week Saturday but baby decided to come the day before lol. I wouldn't mind a sweep again but not keen to accept induction only because I have no health risk so rather labour just coming naturally tbh.

I won’t have a sweep until after 40 weeks. My hospital don’t like women going over 41 weeks, so I have said I might consider induction after then depending on how I feel.

Having sweeps to try and avoid an induction 🤞

I'm in the same mindset as you. 40+4 and turned down a sweep this week. Won't be opting for an induction either. It just seems that one intervention leads to increased chances of more intervention further down the line and having had an assisted delivery with my first I'm very keen to avoid another! 😅 We're also all full of a cold in our house so I think baby is waiting until we're better before he makes his appearance!

I think in certain situations they are just obliged by law to offer it, like with high BP, GD or even just being overdue. It's entirely your decision to decide what's best for your baby.

I’m declining both too, doctor has offered induction at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes. I’m going to see how I feel if I go to 41 weeks but right now at 38+2 I am keen to wait for baby to come naturally!

I’m 40+3 and my midwife said I could have one at 41 weeks if I want, but I’m not planning to unless maybe I get closer to 42 weeks. They seem uncomfortable and don’t prompt labour for everyone so while I’m low risk I’d rather just wait.

I totally agree with you. I’m 40+5 weeks and I turned down a sweep today too. Now, I’m booked for induction on Monday morning. I wanted my labour to start spontaneously, so I don’t know what to do…

I was offered a sweep at 40+1 with no good reason for it. After doing a research I will decline and see how I progress naturally. Might consider one after week 41, or closer to week 42. As sweep is the gentlest way of starting the labour, rather than drug based or non-drug options.

I’m 45 years old and I was told that due to my age I cannot go over 40 weeks as there’s a risk of still birth, so I have to decide between induction or c-section if I don deliver naturally by 40 weeks. I’ll choose the c-section as I believe induction can lead to lots of interventions and end up on emergency C-section anyway. I’m currently 37+4, so hopefully I’ll deliver naturally before the due date.

At my last appointment at 38 weeks (last Wednesday) we haven’t even discussed about it. It’s my second so I’m booked with a midwife again when I’m 41 week and she just said she hopes not to see me then 😂 as if I’ll give birth before that. No mention of sweeps , inducing or anything like that. I’m also surprised to see how lots of you are mentioning sweeps at 38,39 weeks…. Obviously unless necessary, I don’t understand what’s the point…
