Annual leave pre maternity advice

Hoping someone can help. I’m due to have my 2nd child at the beginning of June. My plan was to start mat leave 2 weeks before and then 2 weeks of annual leave before that (potentially working short bank shifts non clinical). I also wanted to take some leave to reduce my 10 hour days throughout April. However I have been told today that I cannot take ANY annual leave in April as I haven’t accrued it yet. I would understand this if I was leaving, but I’m obviously not. Surely if this was the case then no one would be able to take leave in April as they haven’t accrued it for that financial year. I don’t want to start my mat leave any earlier, but I also don’t want to be doing 10+ hours of clinical work (I’m community based so often on the road between clinics and patients homes) Does anyone have any advice regarding this as the last thing I want to do is end up going sick through stress and exhaustion.

Who told you you can't take your AL?? I was due in June 2024 and took my AL from April 15th to the last week of may then started my mat leave 3 weeks before my due date. I had the same problem with my boss but when I said to her that I wouldn't be back until the following tax year so what would happen to all my AL are they gonna pay me it all.. she then spoke to HR and they agreed I could take it before I start mat leave x

I’ve been told that I have my full years quota of annual leave including bank holidays to use before I start maternity leave in September so all 200+hrs and can’t carry any forward into the year I return back.

My band 7 told me today that I can’t take any throughout April 🤷🏼‍♀️ I plan to speak to HR but we’re also being taken over as of 1st April 🤦🏼‍♀️ x

Just in April? But you can take the other months? Seems odd if that’s not been a rule before and you haven’t got maximum staff off already?

Doesn't sound right at all!

I have booked all my AL in prior to mat leave in June.
