The straps are dependant on what chair you have. If it came with straps I would use them, but we have the Stokke Tripp trapp which is meant to be used without
I have a different high chair but I use the straps otherwise she will launch herself out as soon as I take the tray off 😂 If they have straps then they should definitely be used. They should be just a 1 click buckle so they are still easy to get out (like car seats) It will also help keep baby in the safest upright position for eating
So I bought a foot rest to go on our IKEA high chair and I once forgot to do the strap up and he managed to fully stand himself up and yehh it scared me. So I would definitely recommend strapping them in when they get to an age where they're strong enough to stand and stuff. Xx
I never used the straps, but I was never worried about my daughter throwing herself out. At the point she stood up on the footrest and tried to climb out I stopped using the highchair anyway as she didn’t want to use it! I assume once he becomes a bit better with sitting and balancing he will not lean forwards so much x
@Claire ahhhh you’re right! I didn’t even think about that! She’s not sitting fully independently yet, we’re still working on that and she tends to lean quite a lot forward when practicing too 😅. And same I’m always there when she’s in it too
@Lauryn ahh okay haha. I never take the tray off as I have the silicone mat that goes over and covers the whole thing. And the ikea one didn’t help at all with her position :( as it’s only a 3 point harness vs I think usually they might be 5 point?
@Dani omg lol kids just try to do the scariest things, you’d think theyre trying to kill us on purpose 😭🤣. I’ve got the footrest as well and will keep this in mind for the future! Thank you!
My boy leans forward too in his ikea high chair but is getting better with that as he is getting stronger with sitting better. I never strap him in as like you say it's quicker to get him out if he is choking
