I’ve never put in any gates. He’s had a few bumps but nothing too serious.
We were done with baby gates around 2
We’ve never had any gates tbh, she’s always wandered about x
@Karen my sons a climber so i worry he will do silly things on the stairs, he likes to jump off things he has no sense of danger 😂 but he also hates using the potty so i need a way for him to have access to the bathroom luckily i have one downstairs aswell as upstairs but with how my stairs are i cant put a gate at the bottom so contemplating just taking them off and trusting him
Only room that has a gate is the kitchen. Access to whole of home as soon as mobile as I often forget to even close the baby gate x
Have you all ever had any accidents letting them roam around? My sons extremely hyperactive and takes alot of falls I just worry about him falling down the stairs
Our son is 2.5 and we only have the stair gate. Once he learned how to open the door to his play area we let him have freedom because it was impossible to not expect him to escape. His arms aren't long enough to open the stairs gate so we left it for safety, even though hes great at stairs
Age 2 ish. We will have a gate at the top of the stairs which is closed at night
I'm in a small one bedroom apartment. It's easy to watch my daughter. But she was never the type to open clubbers or anything. She's 2.5 soon.
Prob around 2, if that We only block off our laundry room with a baby gate bc our cat’s litter box is back there. But I learned letting them roam and correcting as you go works out better in the long run. My son learned quickly what he was able to do and to not go through all the cabinets 😅
@Lauren i have cupboard locks hes never been able to open them so he doesnt even try 😂 im probably underestimating him and hindering his growth but i caught him jumping off the arm of the sofa the other day and trying to land on his bum, he still gets baffled when he gets hurt 😂
I’ve wondered this as well. My son will be 2 in the summer and my house is practically barricaded with baby gates but we also have multiple big dogs so I feel like our gates will be in place longer than most people
@Lauren we taught our daughter as soon as she was crawling to safely get down from the sofa, this then extend to our bed. We have a small chair by our bed so she can climb up safely as well. She's had a couple of falls, but nothing serious. We live in a flat so don't have stairs but if we had stairs I'd have a gate at the bottom and top and stairs would be supervised. FYI my daughter is only 14 months. X
Mine is going to be 2 next week, but I haven’t used the gates in about 3 months tbh

Never had gates. We changed the house to be safer to him and I close the door in rooms that he can’t be inside by himself.
We were done at 18 months as he leant to open them
My son has free roam he’s 2 years old . Things to note tho is we have 1 floor level so no stairs and we have my bedroom door and the empty room doors shut . My son has free access in the kitchen , living room, hall and his room and the bathroom.
We stopped closing the gates when my little girl turned 2, she roams as she wishes and can go up & down the stairs by herself safely. I only close the gate at the top of the stairs at night time so she cannot fall in the dark if she gets up. She opens and closes internal doors so just closing her bedroom door isn't enough
My 15 month old will try to climb the baby gate, this started around 12 months. We keep the bathroom door closed and baby gate the kitchen off, she's allowed everywhere else. She's never alone anywhere except maybe 2 mins when I have to pee lol but she's usually with a parent or her brother. She won't climb the baby gate if someone's with her thankfully
We still have gates because I babysit a one year old. But when my youngest was about 2.5 she learned how to open them so when I'm not babysitting the gates just stay open.
We don’t have stairs and I only have one baby gate but that’s to contain my Great Dane to one side of the house if she’s becoming too playful. Other than that my son has free roam x
We have a gate so she can’t get into the kitchen, but everything else she’s free to explore. There’s not much that could hurt her around the house, she’s never been much of a climber
Never have had gates but do have camera systems. 🙂
I only have one story but i believe he was 2.5 he will be 4 this june
Never stopped her. Just a gate on her bedroom for safety at night. She can come and go as she pleases and has never had an accident
Age 2, even a bit younger. She roams free downstairs with stair gate on and same up stairs with stair gate on, and gate on her door at night for extra safety with us being asleep
I’ve kept the gate at stairs but usually let them roam. But by 3 they usually know how to open the gate and my kids have made it up and down the stairs alone. lol Kitchen is a no and bathroom they’ll get curious on stuff
Around 2. Both my kids. I just make sure there’s nothing unsafe where they can reach. But most of the time I let them roam free they end up coming back to me.
We never had a gate at the bottom but do have one at the top and for the lounge. But she’s 1 1/2 now and we don’t always use the lounge one. We’ve taught her not to go on them without us and I guess we’ve been lucky. She doesn’t pay them any attention. We have locks on the kitchen cupboards.

I’ve got gates on the stairs so once we’re downstairs upstairs is a forbidden land but otherwise we have an open plan home pretty much. A door to an extension which remains closed most of the day but if opened they can roam. They’ve learnt what they can/can’t do and I keep the oven switched off at the mains unless I’m using it and then I’m in the kitchen to watch anything going on. I’ve got locks on the cupboards in the kitchen too.
No gates here. He goes wherever, he learns what he can and can’t touch. Never touched the oven, never touched the Xmas tree etc. doesn’t open drawers. I taught him to how go down backwards on stairs like at 10m, when he was fast crawling. Open plan house I can usually always see him from the kitchen or can hear him if he’s playing in the room or behind a door or something
@Deb my son can get up and down safely he just chooses the feral life majority of the time 😂😂
@Lauren know that feeling, if Wyntr is tired she is stroppy and throws everything x
Probably 2 or 3 which obviously helped with toilet training. That said they wernt gone long. The only thing I was wary of was my daughter coming downstairs in her play shoes and dressing up outfit plus toys. Or if they were too quiet.
