How do you manage the extra saliva?

I’m seven weeks into my second pregnancy and have had my HG symptoms back since week 5. I’m devastated it’s come back as it’s just so debilitating. The worst thing is the extra saliva. I had ptyalism in my first pregnancy too and it’s the absolute worst. Has anyone found any relief from medicines or any other way of reducing the saliva? It’s that which makes me feel so much sicker. Docs have prescribed me prochlorperazine which seems to be doing nothing, and I spend my day constantly sucking a tiny piece of fresh ginger to try and make the saliva easier to swallow. Any other tips would be massively appreciated as it’s making me so depressed and more sick 😩

Zofran helps a ton

Brushing teeth a lot and using mouth wash helps although sometimes gets me closer to puking too

Also had horrible HG 1st pregnancy and seems like it’s back for #2

Hi Prana, thanks and sorry you are suffering too. Can Zofran be taken in the first trimester?

Hey I’m on the same meds but find it knocks me out. Have you tried sugar free polos? This helps with my saliva. Good luck - I know how tough this is xxx

i found drinking lots and finding a gum i could stand the flavour of helped. also i know it’s gross but i just spit the extra salvia out when i needed to or kept a flannel nearby, in the early weeks its the only way i could rest we i felt like it was non stop! i just had my baby and just want to assure you the symptoms including this one disappeared instantly. you got this ❤️

I also had to spit it out a lot, which was unpleasant, but better than throwing it back up! Nappy bags and kitchen towel with me wherever I went, also to be sick in when needed. But if I had to get through a conversation with someone a barley sugar or clear sucky sweet For me although the sickness continued until birth, the excess saliva did stop around the 2nd trimester, so fingers crossed it won’t last!

Hey I’ve been taking zofran since 6weeks pregnant and I’m on week 7. My first pregnancy I took it 37 weeks. And my baby is perfectly fine btw

Thanks all. I think the spit cup will need to make a reappearance. I’d love to try and find a mint or boiled sweet which isn’t too sweet or minty if that makes sense!

If you can and feel you need to just sleep definitely just do it, I slept so much in the worst weeks of my HG because I was just so much better off… also I’d advise the chewing gum… I’ve chewed gum consistently and still do now at 39 weeks to help get rid of that nauseous feeling… Keep your fluids up too every time you feel your mouth watering have a soo of juice of something… Really hope you’re ok💖

Look up sweet mints on Amazon I’ve been using those they help when nothing else does

I had this wrong my for my whole pregnancy it got better around 7 mths when I started eating a lot of unsalted sunflower kernels. This helps so much. Also drink water with lemon or water lime everyday. You are losing a lot electrolytes when spitting.
