@Amanda thank you for this! I think I’m also so in my head about the late onset of GBS but at the same time I can’t do anything about that 😩 I’m worried that if I go over my due date should I accept a c section rather than induction?
Once my Dr told me I was GBS Pos I kinda freaked out about it. I ended up having contractions and was 6cm when I reached the hospital. They put my fluids on, I got my epidural, they broke my waters, and a few hours later I pushed out a healthy 7lb 11oz boy without tearing 🥹 I literally worried for nothing and feel bad for putting myself through the stress of it all. Whatever happens will happen. And just know your medical professionals will do their best to ensure you have the best delivery possible. Once your little one arrives you won’t even remember why you were worried 🥰
I was positive with my first and there treating this pregnancy as positive too even though I’ve not been retested. As long as you can have 4hours IV antibiotics before baby is born your be all good. I had 2 rounds of antibiotics with my first during labour. And we will see what happens this time. If your waters go, yes you will need to go in sooner, yes they prefer to induce straight away but it’s still your choice if you wait and see for few hours or not. The high risk is going over 24hrs after water breaking. I’ve been offered a sweep as where my waters will be intact at the time I’m willing to accept the sweep. But you you would prefer not too that’s ok too. Sweeps only 50:50 on working anyway. Try not to worry, when things start just let the midwife know you have it and all should be ok. C-section recovery is something I’m personally trying to avoid more than an indication but that’s just what I feel is right for me and my Family.
I was GBS pos and was very worried too. My boy ended up coming 2 weeks early and my water actually broke when I got to the hospital. They were surprisingly in no hurry to get me the antibiotics. I actually had to be transferred to a different hospital due to staffing issues so I didn’t get antibiotics for a good 3-4 hours after my water broke and my baby came out perfectly healthy. I had just over a 24 hour labor and they were threatening c section but I was able to deliver vaginally. Try not to stress! I know it’s hard but the best thing you can do is be as relaxed as possible and just take things as they come. ❤️You being stressed stresses your baby, and for me that was the biggest motivator to just let things go and take it as they come. It will all be okay mama
I was GBS positive and only managed one out of two antibiotic IVs due to how quickly my labour progressed. I also had three sweeps. Babe was absolutely fine. I was induced due to being two weeks overdue. Again babe was absolutely fine. No need for any interventions at all. It’s hard to ignore the negative experiences people have, I was the worst for worrying over it but please don’t listen to all the stories you read. Try not to think about it. I just kept thinking about the baby at the end and that got me through it
I had GBS and went into labour naturally at 38 weeks, my waters broke around 6:30am, went to hospital as I knew I would need IV antibiotics, had a sweep and contractions started & gave birth 11 hours later! They did say they wanted to induce me if nothing happened with contractions but it wasn’t necessary, nothing to worry about honestly x
I was GBS positive i was induced my labour was pretty straightforward i had iv antibiotics everything was fine he is fine he’s 4 now and i was fine
Ask to have a meeting with the consultant midwife and they are very understanding of your wants and can help make a plan your comfortable with. I've had it with both my boys, for my third I've already decided I'll wait for labour to start naturally but go into hospital for the antibiotics straight away. I don't want an induction but I was unwell the two previous times because of GBS but it was unknown on my first and I didn't have antibiotics on my second. I'll also not have a sweep this time to reduce risk- it's not necessary so I'm not going to do it again. My first son was unwell and SCBU but that was more down to delays in hospital and undiagnosed GBS and I was unwell with my second son but he was fine and didn't need any additional care but had antibiotics as a precaution. Its good you know you have it, I wouldn't let it panic you. All the best xo
Just had my second. My waters burst why just before I started to push and had only been at the hospital for 50 mins so no antibiotics were able to be given. We have to stay in for 4hr monitoring for 24hrs.
I’ve been GBS positive with all three of my pregnancies, the first from start of contractions to birth lasted 2hrs 5mins and I was too quick to get antibiotics so they monitored me and baby for about 12hrs then we went home. The second was 1hr and a half start of contractions to birth so again no chance to get antibiotics and they monitored me for about 30 hours because baby had some issues with mucus due to being delivered so quickly so they just kept us in a bit longer. Both times my water broke spontaneously and I had them within 10 minutes after. I’m almost 36 weeks with my 3rd but expecting it to be super quick again, no chance for antibiotics and we’ll be monitored for at least 12 hours afterwards
I was GBS positive. I had originally planned a home birth, and was still able to do so if my labour started first and then my water broke.. my water broke first and then nothing.. so I ended up at the hospital because once your water breaks you need the antibiotics / to be induced if nothing is happening to get things going.. I ended up with a csection after baby’s heart rate was all over the place up and down.. all in all needing a csection was for the better because baby was not in a good position to ever be born vaginally and things could have been really scary if I ended up having him at home. All that to say, being GBS positive is not a bad thing. You can still very much have the labour you want, it’s just an extra thing that needs to be taken into consideration! Try to Think of it as a good thing that they know your positive so that you can taken preemptive measures for you and baby!!
