Bringing food and toys to mouth

Is anyone else finding their baby doesn't bring much to their mouth? My baby is 8 months old and although he chews his hands he doesn't really bring toys to his mouth a lot (he does occasionally but not all the time). He did put things in his mouth more a few months ago but seems to have stopped. He hasn't got any teeth yet either so wonder if it's because he's not teething so he isn't chewing much yet. He doesn't bring food to his mouth either, just plays with it. He will only eat if I spoon feed or take it to his mouth for him.
