I went for my midwife appointment at 29+4 and I was measuring at 34 weeks, she sent me for a growth scan to make sure I didn’t have too much fluid. Everything was absolutely fine! Fluid was in the normal levels. But then I was in hospital for reduced movements at 30+5 and the midwife measured bump and she measured it at 32 weeks. It purely relies on what position baby is lying in! I wouldn’t worry at all. My first was always measuring 2-3 weeks ahead, born at 40+2 and weighed 8lbs 3oz x
@Emma the midwife did say it’s not fully accurate. All the scans we have had she has measured average. I am seeing this extra scan as a nice opportunity to see her again lol! My glucose test was fine so I think she was just stretched out when the midwife measured
@Caitlin thanks it wasn’t too worried as I did think it was her stretched out but nice to hear other people have measured big but everything has been fine. Nice opportunity to see her again x
Like Emma said, tummy measuring isn't very accurate. Chances are baby was just in an odd position. With my first, we had a growth scan because he was measuring slightly bigger. But the scan showed he was actually only on the 10th centile. Came out at 7lb 12, a week late 😅 We're going for another scan this time round because baby was measuring small. When she measured though, you could clearly see baby was in a weird position right at the top of my uterus and leaning right over to the left 🤦🏽♀️ Excited for the extra chance to see baby before they arrive though 😊
You can opt out of your bump being measured, it’s highly inaccurate and no official ‘training’ takes place for it, they just guess where to start and end the measurement. Also it goes in a linear ‘you should grow only 1cm per week’ rule… which is absolute rubbish, our bumps will grow differently, we aren’t all the same and we don’t all carry our babies the same. It should only be treated as a guide and please don’t be worried by it. Your body will grow a baby that fits your body 🙌🏻
I was the opposite. My bump was measuring below the 5th percentile at my last midwife appointment and I was referred for an urgent scan the next day, baby measured in the 71st percentile on the scan. It’s crazy how different the measurements can be! My first daughter was estimated to be 10lbs plus at 38 weeks, I went overdue and had her at 41+2 and she was only 8lbs6. It’s nice to get the reassurance from measurements/scans that babies growing but I don’t put too much stock into the sizes x
Same here - bump measured 99th percentile and then went for a proper scan and he’s actually on the 75th. So still large but the bump measurement was very inaccurate so I wouldn’t worry at all x
I was measuring 4 weeks ahead first time round and baby wasn't even big when he actually came out and 6 weeks ahead with my second baby. They measured her tummy at 99th centile when I went for a growth scan but as I passed my GD test they said ir was all okay and not to worry. I just saw the extra scan as a chance to see her again 🥰 some county's don't even measure the the tummy anymore as it's not very accurate
