So baby should no longer have thong thrust for the most part. They should be able to be upright in a highchair. They may lean a bit if they are wider highchairs so I used to put a rolled swaddle blanket on the sides. I started at 4 month old. Just purées. My son also got teeth at 4 months old so I was really careful with what was giving as far as BLW when he was age appropriate. You really shouldn’t start any BLW till they are 6 months old. Discuss it all with your pediatrician they should be the ones who guide you as to when the proper time to start feeding your child anything more than milk.
I started at 5.5 months. She kept me up all night one night just to feed so the next day we started weaning. We did a mix of BLW and homemade purees. Weaning is stressful so don't rush into it. If baby is still wobbly I would wait till they can hold themselves up without or with very minimal wobbling or wait till they tell you they're ready like my little girl did
Thank you guys so much for the advice!
if he is not fully confident sitting then i would keep waiting. we started BLW at about 6.5 months. once you start try not to overthink it or over stress. food before 1 is mostly for fun
if baby can hold their head up fully unaided without it flopping over, try babe with some puree. always start with boring, singular veg like broccoli, or cauliflower, something bland. starting with singular veggies helps to figure out if there’s any allergies or intolerances, and we start with veggies before fruit because it’s blander. if babe tries a strawberry they probs won’t eat a broccoli floret haha. if babe pushes the food out with his tongue, or can’t figure out how to swallow it, he won’t be ready just yet. wait a few more days and try again. once the tongue reflex calms down, he’ll be ready to continue with puree. i’d say do 2 weeks minimum with puree first, then introduce finger foods, just so he can get used to actually eating rather than having milk. follow your intuition tho! xx
Umm NHS recommends at 6 months. I asked a HV and she said the same. I started at 6 months 1 week. Even though my son is massive I did notice that he struggled with sitting up unaided at that age and had to stuff blankets etc into the highchair to prop him up. Personally I would wait. Xxx
@Izzie I had the same xx
I started right at 4 months with purées then did baby led weening once she got the concept down
I started at 6 months, as I wanted to do BLW which you absolutely shouldn't do before 6months.
Whenever you think your baby is ready preferably sitting unaided. Able to hold his own. Just start with veggies and put some in a dish for you to feed him and then whole bits on a plate like a whole piece of broccoli or a carrot stick that’s nice and soft.
