Potty training

Hi my daughter is 2.5 years old and I’m currently 14/15 weeks pregnant and I’ve been thinking I’d like to get her potty trained before the new baby comes so does anyone have any recommendations of how to successfully do this please xx

The oh crap potty training book was good and worked for my first: the main thing I took away from the book was being in the right mindset in regards to potty training, definitely recommend it

Thank you xx

My daughter was the same age when I started because I was expecting. There’s no straight approach to potty training. Just ditch the diapers and start monitoring her to watch when she wants to go. When she wants to pee or poop, you rush her to the potty so she can make the association. With time she will get it especially if she can communicate well. I must warn it’s one of the hardest things to teach a child so there will be a lot of messes and oopsies but in all it takes about a week or two.

I think I have fell lucky as my potty training journey has been seemingly plain sailing. Personally books and watching YouTube songs about sitting on the potty have helped, have the potty around (which I have for months and months, infact I bought it a year ago for her to familiarise herself with). I just went at her own pace, which has helped her and me I think especially considering I coparent and was so stressed about the big change when learning it over two houses & nursery, but it has worked and we can even do long drives with no accidents. I went out and let her pick her own pants, show her how to put them on etc, I used to take her potty into the toilets when I went and encourage her to sit when I sit. She still wear a nappy (pull up) at night but I quickly introduced encouraging her to have a wee before bed and when she first wakes up. I’m still struggling with the number 2 side of things but we’re slowly getting there. Good luck xxx
