Rolling over - not interested

My 4 nearly 5 month old has no interest in rolling whatsoever instead he’s more interested in sitting up and tries to even lift him self up constantly when put down and even when playing/tummy time 😅 and when I’ve tried with him I just get a look that’s he’s not impressed (a judgy one) 🤣🤣 So I have been helping him and assisting him sitting up etc and on my legs and bounce him up and down he absolutely loves it and giggles. I think also because he loves to look around the moment and gets easily distracted. Can rolling come after? I feel like he’s skipping it for sitting up anyone else’s little one done this and has the rolling come later? I know all babies are different but I thought it has/does go in an order but maybe not 🫣😅

Yes its possible yo skip rolling entirely and progress directly to sitting. While rolling over is a typical milestone in development, it's not always a prerequisite for sitting. Some babies might develop the strength and balance necessary for sitting independently without ever mastering rolling.  Elaboration: Rolling is a developmental milestone: Rolling over, typically between 6 and 8 months, is a common step in a baby's development, but not all babies follow this path.  Sitting can come first: Some babies may demonstrate sitting independently (without support) before they start rolling over. I copied this from Google BTW hahaha. Sounds like your baby is doing great. X

My little one has a love hate relationship with rolling. Will do it maybe once a week but get angry most of the time because he can't quite figure out what to do with his arms. He's also trying to sit up alot. The other morning during a contact nap he sat bolt upright in his sleep then woke up and looked at me like help I'm not sure what I did

@Holley to help him understand how to get his arms out you can shift his head ever so slightly. I did this with my boy and now he gets his arms out

@Karina oh it's not the arms out that's actually the problem. He spreads out like superman but then they kind of act like a doorstop and he can't roll because he can't work out how to overcome that yet. Occasionally he will get them in the right position but it's not often at the moment

@Holley I see. My boy was the same. Give him time. Experiment with helping him put his arms down, tuck them in, slowlyyyy roll him over. Mine is getting the hang of it. The brain has neuron pathways so repetition helps
