Weight gain

Hey guys! I’m 27 weeks, and at my last appointment my doctor said that I have gained 13 pounds during my pregnancy so far and she does not want me gaining any more weight. I kinda feel like she’s setting me up to fail, because I know you gain weight in your third trimester. I walk a mile a day, eat relatively healthy (obvi could be better but def could be worse lol), and do light weightlifting a few times a week. I’m feeling pretty defeated and want to make sure I’m healthy, but don’t want to obsess over this. Any input?! 🥲

Everyone’s body handles pregnancy differently I’m 28 weeks pregnant and have gained 30lbs and I was the same with my 1st baby my body just holds fat when pregnant. If your exercising and eating majority healthy I would ignore what they say unless u start gaining a excess amount in the 3rd trimester u will gain the most weight

That OB is wild and I would stand up for yourself 100% it is healthy to gain weight in the 3rd trimester

Just ignore what she said.. continue eating well, exercising and nourishing yourself and your baby

My midwife isn’t concerned that I’m 27 weeks and have gained almost 30lbs already. Being concerned over 13lbs is wild !

I gained 60 lbs during my first pregnancy and my OB barely mentioned it! I was healthy in all other ways. That’s wild that they said that over 13 lbs, definitely ignore and keep doing what you have been doing 🫶

Your doctor will say what yhe medical guidelines are which does have health facts attached to them along with the want of you and your baby's health to be the best possible. Now with that being said I started my last pregnancy with me being 5'2" and 200 lbs, I gained 20 lbs each trimester and was told something similar by my first OB, I was fine and Baby was delivered easily and baby was completely healthy. Third trimester weight gain is a big thing especially since Baby gains in size so much.

I feel like I would get a new OB after being told that 😳

What was your pre pregnancy weight? You are supposed to gain less when you have a higher BMI. My first pregnancy the doctor said the same thing yours did, but this pregnancy I got a different doctor who isn’t so rude (in my opinion). I’ve gained 25lbs and he hasn’t said anything of it. First pregnancy I gained 20lbs and she only wanted me to gain 10. Let your body be. Your eating well and exercising which is what id important

Ooof sorry she said that girlie 🙄🩷 but listen unless you were unhealthy and really overweight before pregnancy I wouldn't think too much into it.

That’s weird. I gained 10 pounds so far and my doctor just said - oh that’s good (24 weeks). She said even if I gain pound per week, I will be at 25, which is a normal weight gain. So I don’t think you should worry.

I gained 80lbs during my pregnancy, I had a bunch of different doctors and not ONE mentioned my weight! I started at 180 and eventually was 260. The only thing they did do was put me on baby aspirin to help avoid pre eclampsia due to my high bmi.

Only 13 pounds at 27 weeks?! That’s like insanely good girl lol. I know she’s your doctor but that’s incorrect. You’re doing great keep it up!

That doesn’t make sense since the third trimester is when you gain a pound a week… bc you have to eat more. I have gained 20 pounds and my OB has not said anything to me about it. I would go to a different OB. I too eat relatively healthy and I walk as much as I can. That’s a little crazy they said that

i’m 28 weeks i’ve gained about 20 pounds. i wouldn’t worry about it. pregnant women gain about a pound a week starting from their second trimester

Girl gain that weight, don’t feel like you have to be restricted unless you have health issues. I gained 60 lbs with my first, about 55 lbs with my second and im pregnant now and on the same track. My doctor hasn’t said one thing about gaining too much. I’ve had healthy babies.

Here's the "textbook" answer- the recommended weight gain depends on your weight/BMI that you were before you got pregnant. If you are an appropriate BMI then the recommendation is 25-35 lbs. But if you are overweight or obese then your body "should" not need to gain as much because you already have that extra fat on your bones. Your doc is concerned if you gain too much during pregnancy that you won't be able to get it off later. That's the textbook answer but of course how realistic is that??

That's insane. I'm jogging and I've gained 25. Be healthy and get the nutrition you need, don't snack on empty carbs or overdo it. Ignore the scale. Water weight will get ya too. Get a new doc

I literally have gained like 25 pounds already

Girl I’m 25 weeks and have probably gained 25lbs already and my doctor said I’m fine. I’m 5’6” and started around 165lbs and I just weighed 189lbs at my last appointment. I’ve gained all water/baby weight too because I also eat pretty healthy and have no appetite so I’m actually eating a little less than I normally would. Don’t worry about it and just keep doing what you’re doing. A lot of pregnancy weight is out of your control in my opinion.

I gained 90 lbs in my first and 35 in my second, it sounds crazy but honestly I mostly bounced back both times lol be careful to stay mobile and eat nutrient dense foods and you should be okay ❤️
