Hearing problems

This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to ask advice about. When o brought my daughter home she was 2 days old. We fled domestic violence and stayed in a Woman and Family Shelter. It was very large 3 floors. 2 buildings, 1 property. Well, the first day we were back at the shelter. The fire alarm went off. Critically loud because they were big buildings. All I could do is hold her close and run out of the door. I confronted the shelter about the fears I had she could lose her hearing. They dismissed me and said I was crazy for thinking that. Well fast forward almost 2 years and my daughter barely knows any words. Tugs at her ears constantly and I’m very worried also about what I found on google. “Fire alarms range up to 120 decibels. A baby’s ear can’t tolerate more than 85 decibels.” What should I do? I’m definitely talking to her pediatrician. If this is the truth, that place will be closed SO fast. The lawsuit this is!!!!!

Has her pediatrician said anything at her appointments? Does she respond when you call her or look at noises?

@Cassie I told him she was fixated on her ears always rubbing and tugging. She generally doesn’t respond if I call her. She doesn’t seem to notice noise. She loves looking at things, but could care less about talking!

@Cassie he told me a lot kids play with their ears and it’s nothing to worry about! But he said that almost a year ago, and her language skills haven’t developed much since then.

What about the hearing test? They do one at 18 months..did that show anything? You could ask them to repeat it if you're concerned

@Maitreyi They didn’t do one at 18 months for us. She’s only had 1, at birth. I’m gonna call and schedule it at least to be safe

I would definitely ask the pediatrician for some tests!! I have moderate hearing loss in one ear and life was so much better once it was diagnosed. Also maybe try leaning into some ASL signs if you haven’t already! I’ve found it to be a really great resource for early communication. I’m so sorry that happened so early on!! Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and just a content baby + caring mama 🫶🏼
