Newborn will only sleep while being held

Second time mum here, this baby will no sleep unless he's being held. I didn't have this issue with my first and I don't know what to do! I am not a cry it our girl so don't suggest that please. I have a bedside bassinet (co sleeper with the side down) but he lasts maybe 3 minutes in there before crying his little head off. I don't think he likes being on his back because even in the cot, he rolls to his side immediately. He sleeps well when on my chest (tummy to tummy) but that doesn't work for nighttime when I need to sleep.

I remember putting a hot water bottle in the crib to warm it up and rubbing one of old T-shirt on the crib sheet. Babies are really attracted to your scent.

Mine is almost 3 weeks. Was doing less than 5 mins in the next to me and now managing half hour to 2 hours at a time overnight. I only contact nap in the day. I started putting the muslin he's wrapped in in the day on top of the sheet so he has my scent in there and putting my hand on him or next to him for him to settle. He also falls asleep feeding on me and I wait another 20 mins or so after that until he's properly asleep to put him down. May also be worth looking at happycosleeper on instagram so you've got a safe alternative to get through the night ❤️

Some great suggestions already. My son was like this too, it's difficult. I read recently that the way you put your baby down can trigger their startle reflex so to try and put them down feet first and really lower them into the cot slowly. I hope he starts sleeping better for you soon ❤️🫩

This is completely and totally biologically normal Try cosleeping
