Teat size and reflux

My baby is 5 weeks old and uses size 1 teat, he struggles terribly with reflux. I am wondering if anyone has had any success with trying a size 0 test to prevent guzzling and swallowing air, and if this has helped with the reflux? I know most babies need to go up to size 1 by this age but I’m thinking of trying the 0 just because of his reflux

My LO suffered with trapped wind and she used to make a clicking noise on the size 1 teats so I knew she was taking in air. Someone recommended switching to size 0 teats and it really helped so I would certainly give it a go! X

@Chloe thank you my baby does the same! I wish I had thought about it sooner, I’m going to try it. I just didn’t know if 5 weeks is a bit too old for size 0 x

My baby was like this I put them on anti reflux and regurtitation formula which helped massively

My son was on 0 for wuite abit tbh. It’s just taking things at there pace x

@Angel thank you do you know how many weeks out of interest x

He was on it till 2 months because he’s prem by 2 months. Tbh I think he was on it abit longer . But I was told to go at his pace xx

He suffered with mega bad reflux. I really recommend carobel . A thickener for milk so that doesn’t happen. No medication worked on my son but definitely try carobel x

@Angel thanks! In hindsight I should have started him on these but as a new mum I had no idea. What signs did he display that he needed to go up to number 1? X

We use carobel for our 6w been on it since 4 weeks as can’t keep milk down unless thick we’ve had to buy size 3 teats to use with carobel as with the instruction on the back does make it thicker but even with bigger teats she still drinking in a “normal” way/time xx

@Chloe I knew my son needed to go up a size when he would literally suck to hard on teat and it would Collapse X

My little boy was on size 0 for at least 8-10 weeks! He’s 21 weeks now and still only on size 1 😆 xx

@Alicia thank you I defo think I will go down a size x

We started on size 0 and upped to size 1 after about a month as although our LO has reflux, we could tell she wasnt getting enough. I think size 1 are slow flow anyway so I wouldnt change to 0. We just keep her upright during her feed and for 30 mins after as well as only feedi g her when she wants feeding (means her schedule changes easy but less risk of a massive vomit!). We also have her bed on a recline - all these things seem to work for us xx

@Chloe I was the same I wish I’d thought of it sooner! She was defo over 5 weeks when I started her on them and she was on them til she was about 3 months old xx
