Maternity leave - am I being naive?

Is it unreasonable to assume I could work until 38 weeks. My work wants to know my plans, but I’m FTM here so no idea how I’ll feel in 14 weeks time. I work at a desk in an office and can work from home towards the end if needed too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going up until 38w weeks hopefully same as you office/work from home

With my first I worked up till 39 weeks and was fine, I think it is so dependent on how you’re feeling and how the company will support you before your due date, as in making sure you don’t have too much work on or stress, etc. This time round I’ll be leaving a little earlier at 36/37 weeks but that’s more so I can spend more time with my little one before a new little one arrives 🤍 x

I worked until 39 weeks with my first and although it was tiring, I was achy and I wanted to nap I wouldn't change a thing. If you can work from home towards the end you'll probably be able to manage, the thing I struggled the most with was the commute. I'm doing the same thing this time as I want the most amount of time with the little one 😊

I am the complete same as you, I was thinking working up to 38 weeks too but who knows as I am already knackered 🤣

I'm doing up to 38 weeks but 2 weeks of that is holiday I needed to use. Its always nice to have some you time a week or 2 before the baby comes

I’m using 2 weeks holiday before then starting mat leave a week before my due date. My commute is 90 mins each way on the train… and I’m currently doing 3 days in, so I really hope I get to drop that down nearer the time!

Depends completely on the job/pregnancy issues I’m a teacher so thought id be ok to work to 38 weeks. But developed pre eclampsia and was exhausted by 35 weeks had him at 36+5 😂 x

I’m currently still on maternity from my last 😂 however I worked up until 38 weeks last time, did an office job also but I will say I did get very uncomfortable towards the end as I didn’t fit at the desk anymore had to sit to the side most days with a laptop, also I requested a new chair at about 34 weeks which was a game changer! X

I will go until i get that contraction or waterbreak 😁 - also cause i work from home full-time so no excuse! I think you can do it - just listen to your body ofc. Good luck! X

I’ll be working in my offices till I pop 😩. I’m due at the start of August and I hope I’m not early as I’ll be doing tenant invoicing and wages the last working day July 🤣. I’ll then be going straight back but only doing one day a week in the office but keeping my work phone on me 24/7. It’s definitely one of the biggest downsides of being the “boss”. Had one day off last week and it lasted till midday as there was massive fire due to a lorry blowing up 🤦‍♀️. Take as much time off as you can once baby is here, save all your holiday and use that for the build up to your due date, that’s what I would do if I could. X

I did 38 weeks first time and not an office job. Definitely doable. You can always change your mind if it's too much.

I’ve planned to take mine officially from the day before my due date. But I’ve tacked on holiday for the two weeks before which, if I feel fine, I will cancel and carry over for flex back into work in the other side. Tbh you can legally take your mat leave from 25 weeks and you’re entitled to holiday ahead of time. Make yourself a supportive plan for you but if it changes, they will have to suck that up. Most people understand it gets unforeseeably hard in the final months. I’m also a FTM so just preparing to be hot and fed up by July, not to mention mentally checked out 🤣

I’m taking all of my annual leave before my maternity starts, which will be starting at 35 weeks. That’s just because I want to spend some time with my toddler doing things before the baby arrives :) x

I went up to 39 weeks but it was an IT job and working from home so it did make it way easier :)

I wanted to work until 40 weeks if I could but by 37 weeks the pain was so bad. Lightning crotch plus teaching a bunch of teenagers just wasn’t going to work so I had to take 3 weeks before my due date off. Then the baby was 1 week late too. Annoying but I couldn’t have worked any longer my body needed to rest!

Worked past 39 with both boys, would have been bored otherwise :)

I’m working till 34 weeks, taking 2 weeks Annual Leave and then officially starting maternity at 36 weeks. My original plan was 38/39 weeks but I have had so many issues with discrimination at work due to my pregnancy I thought I would leave earlier! I think do whatever you think is best for you and your body at the time!❤️

I worked up to 38 weeks with my first, had her at 39+3. I'm going to 36 this time because I'm a teacher and the summer holidays start July 11th. I'm going to be going stir crazy for those 4 weeks!

You do what your comfortable with I've stopped now because my work is very physically demanding. So I'm glad I stopped. But you do what's best for you if your able to for it ❤️👌❤️

I don't think it's unreasonable, but I would be prepared to stop earlier if you need to. You might be absolutely fine but like you said you can't really tell at this stage. First time I finished up at 37 weeks but would have been fine until 39. Second I planned to finish at 39 weeks but struggled more with pregnancy (and running after a toddler) and ended up with loads of other things going on at the same time so ended up stopping about 37½ weeks. This time holidays mean I'll finish up at about 33 weeks, but hoping to do a couple of days at 39 weeks before officially starting mat leave
