@Lia honestly, after seeing how my niece is with sounds & how reliant she is on the white noise I was like I need to come on here & at least advise other mums not to use it, it’s really not that good for babies. Even health visitor was so pleased that my daughter can sleep through my sons screams when she came to visit & said it was good that I was trying to drain out his sounds or us working in the kitchen with white noise. So glad your little one is the same with noise too!
I always try put my daughter down without it, probably 80% of the time I'm successful and we have two dogs barking, TV on, washing up being done etc and she sleeps through it all.. But when she gets overtired and fights sleep we use it to help her drop off and it's a godsend (we then switch it off when she is in proper sleep and she is back to sleeping through all the noise of the house)
@Sophie I’m glad that she can sleep without it & that it also helps her the times she’s unable to sleep easily & it’s really good that you do switch it off once she’s drifted off to deep sleep, my brother now wishes he switched it off when she’d fall asleep but it’s become a habit now so switching it off just wakes her up
I've always used it for bedtime with both of mine but they can sleep without it in the daytime, they're also both deep sleepers and we've always made sure not to be quiet around them when they're napping/at bedtime. I honestly think it's just dependent on the child, some babies are light sleepers and white noise/no white noise isn't going to affect that.
Can your brother lower the volume every 5mins so there isn't a big jump in volume?
Yessss & as a FTM I thought I NEEDED a white noise machine bc all the moms and tiktok would swear by it but just the fact that me personally cant stand white noise in general let alone to sleep, I just “roughed it through” and probably the best decision 😂 I need my room pitch black and should be able to hear a pin needle drop lol he’s a good sleeper
@Sophie they’re now trying it on a lower volume so hopefully this works for her & after a while they can just stop it
@Emily Phelps so glad to hear your baby is a good sleeper! I remember hearing white noise is needed to put a baby to sleep & how it helps so much which is why I ended up doing it for my son for a while till I realised it was kinda bad for him coz he was relying on it to put him to sleep & without it he would get startled 🤦♀️
Totally agree with you, we've never even tried using it because we didn't want our babies to become reliant on it. My toddler can fall asleep easily to the dog barking, the baby crying, me banging away in the kitchen, even construction noise , and this baby is already the same !
