Weaning & eczema

Hi ladies, first time mum looking for some advise please… My little boy is 6 months and we’ve been weaning for the last 3 weeks, he’s had patches of eczema all over that have been managed with Doublebase lotion, however in the last 4 days it has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY worse, especially on his chest & neck area. We’ve mainly given him veg so far which he has loved, however I mixed a spoon full of Greek yogurt into his banana 5 days ago (Friday) and in the last 48 hours it’s the worst it’s ever been. The doctor today has prescribed Eumovate & Hydrocortisone and said it’s unlikely it was the dairy that made it worse considering it was such a small amount, but I can’t help but think it’s unlikely it’s a coincidence? If it’s an allergy is it likely to flare up immediately, or is a 24/48hr delay common?? Idk what I’m getting at here, but just want to hear from other mums whose babies have eczema & are on the weaning journey… The GP today was really condescending and not very friendly so I feel abit shit now to be honest. Thanks 🤍

I would bet on it being the dairy, and it can definitely take upto 48hrs for it to come out as eczema. GPs tend to not know much about eczmea, and like to brush off the fact that dairy is usually a massive trigger for a lot of eczma kiddies. Cut the dairy out, and also don't touch the steroids, especially for the face. It can cause so many more problems in the long run. If you can stay dairy free for a few weeks with limited eczema, try again after a while and if it comes back, ask for an urgent referral to the dietician clinic at your local children's hospital

@Louise I’m with you on the not using the steroids, I really don’t want to, but if I can’t get it to calm down I fear I’ll have no choice? Me and my partner saw a private dermatologist before as we both have bad skin and she was talking about preventative and treatment and how sometimes if the skin is so inflamed you need to treat it with steroids, and then moisturising to prevent. I take her word on it, she was incredibly highly qualified and eczema was her specialty so she knew her shit. So I believe steroids do have their place, I’m just cautious as he’s so little 😥
