I didn’t know I have to apply before the end of January for children born on 2021, she is not currently in nursery because we just muove in this area and they don’t have any place at the nursery we like it, I feel so Guilty for now knowing I need to register her in school in my country we register the child after they 4th birthday, I really hope I will get one place for her in school this September.

You will get a place at a school It just may not be one you’d have potentially chosen or wanted or one close to your home But you absolutely will have a school place :)

Thank you so much for the reassurance

You will definitely get a place, even with a late application 🫶🏻

You won't be the only one ❤️ You will get a place in your county as they have a legal obligation to assign a place x

So I did my little girls application almost a week late, and I heard back today she got into her first choice! But she got lucky as she already attends the nursery there, and her big brother goes to the school. That being said, you will still be accepted but may not be your first choice x

You should get a place. For your own peace of mind do a little research on the schools in your area that find out from locals which schools are the best academically and most preferred and make your choice based on what’s most important to you All the best x

They don't legally have to go to school until they're 5, in the UK. So you could wait it out til next year if you don't get the school you want. They will just start year 1 instead of Reception

They don’t really support parents here I think. I didn’t know what to do, where to apply. I only knew I had to do it because my sister mentioned it to me. You will get a school place lovely, once you’re given a school try to book a tour at it so you can get excited with your little one.

@Amelia doing this will just mean starting a school she doesn’t want 12 months later surely? If schools admit 30 kids in reception and no one leaves before year 1 they surely can’t accept anymore even into year one?

@Sarah does your little one go to nursery or any form of childcare? Nurseries/preschools and childminders around me where very vocal in that admissions where open to apply for! I’m 99% sure the local council also posted on social media But obviously if you don’t use social media or childcare you kind of are on your own

@Amy he goes to preschool. They said to apply about a week before but no information on how to apply, which schools were nearby etc. Nothing about open days or anything. I didn’t see anything in social media about needing to apply either. I was just trying to give a bit of empathy to the poster I wouldn’t want them to feel the mum guilt, we get enough of it from the outside world as it is. 🫶

@Amelia it's the term after they turn 5 so depends when they are born. E.g. my son would have to start reception April if we waited until 5 x
