Hi, I had this on Wednesday but it was after a normal scan and I already knew the gender - I’m sure you could ask though? Xx
@Bee can I ask how they do the cervix check as I’m having one next week
Had this at my 20 week scan so they told me then. Xx
@Naomi probe with a condom and lube 🫠 and then I think can measure it. Slightly uncomfortable but nothing to bad x
@Sophie-Jayne how can they tell the gender just from checking your cervix though? Xx
@Naomi oh I thought you meant how do they check your cervix!! lol. At mine I had the usual ultrasound and then the cervix check at the end of the appointment. They needed to check if a stitch needed to be put in x
Thanks everyone! When they check the cervix during the transvaginal scan, they can definitely see the baby. I know from previous cervical checks. I’ll have to see if they will tell me the gender though! I guess it will depend on who is doing it and if they are in a good mood 😂 xx
@Isabelle I had a gender scan at 16+4 but this is the first time we have found out so I wanted to double check at my next scan so I’ll probably ask too haha x
@Naomi aww hehe I’m so stressed by the uncertainty of whether they’ll tell me or not! We can both ask and see what they say! During my last pregnancy, they could definitely tell she was a girl so hopefully they will be able to tell this time for both of us. I’m just not sure as I know different hospitals have different policies! Good luck ❤️ xxx
For my cervical check it was straight after the abdominal 20 week scan. But when they were doing the internal scan of cervix all I could see of baby was his head so not sure how much they can properly see of baby internally when they’re this big?
I have these, they always do a normal scan after the internal so I'm sure you could ask them to check. Think it all depends on the person doing the scan though x
I’ve had 3 cervix scans 16 weeks, 18 weeks 20 weeks and not once did they check gender it’s a quick scan to make sure baby’s okay, then it’s a vaginal scan your check the length of ur cervix, I’ve never asked about gender but there main thing is checking ur cervix not gender x
They told me at my 18 week cervical length scan! They were really happy to actually tell me because everyone else that day said they’d wait until 20 weeks scan.
I’ve been having cervical scans every 2 weeks since I was 16 weeks and I’m now 21w. The consultant is pretty cut throat. She tells me she will just check for a heartbeat and then it’s cervical check and done. It lasts max 2-3 mins and she always apologises and says sorry but it’s not the time for a good look at baby, it’s not what the scans are for. So I would personally say I can’t imagine they would tell you gender but I guess it might depend on each trust and how they do them. Hope it does well x

Thanks so much for your replies everyone x
Hey! I had this when I was 18 weeks and they asked me if I wanted to know. I didn’t, but they were happy to tell me. They do an abdominal scan before an internal to measure the cervix. Good luck! I had this done also because of a previous Lletz treatment x
@Olivia thank you so much Olivia! I’m having it for the same reason! Hope yours went well ❤️ hopefully I’ll have the same experience as I’d love to know! 🥰 xx
@Isabelle I’ve now had two check ups and they were happy to tell me at both of them so I hope they are for you! Thank you. All is stable at the moment at 26mm. Anything under 25mm they told me that I’d be prescribed progesterone but I’m not needing that at the moment 🤞🏻x
@Olivia aww that’s great to hear! Thank you 🥰 I had two or three check ups with my daughter and I was lucky that everything was fine that time too. I hope everything goes amazingly for you xx
@Isabelle thank you! You too 🥰 Did you make it to your due date? Xx
@Olivia thank you so much 🥰 I was induced at 37w4d so pretty much! I had no problems with my cervix at all and I had had a LLETZ and a second biopsy before I got pregnant! I was induced because of blood pressure, her measuring small and reduced movements so nothing to do with my cervix at all! How many weeks are you now? I know they stopped monitoring me after about 24 weeks because they say the risk goes from that point? I think I remember right! Hopefully you only have a few more checks to go, although I do find the extra checks reassuring as long as everything is okay! 😊xx
I’m 20 weeks now. Had my first check at 16 and then 18. They have scheduled in 2 more checks but like you, I feel reassured having more checks! So we’ll see how the next couple of appointments go xx
Hope they all go well! For some reason, they are only starting mine at 18 weeks this time xx
In case anyone comes on this post looking for an answer in the future, they looked at the baby and told me the gender! X
@Isabelle oh that’s great when I had mine at 16 weeks she said she couldn’t as the scan wasn’t for gender it was just to check my cervix and make sure baby’s okay, she apologised tho as she knew I went for a gender scan week before and baby wouldn’t show gender, she kept saying she in the scan and my next one at 18 weeks she said she too a week later I had my 20 week scan and she’s indeed a girl x
@Rosheen aww that’s sooo lovely that she gave you little hints! Congratulations on your little girl 💕💕💕 I am having a boy this time and already have a 2 year old little girl 💜💜 It must have been so nice when you realised that she was telling you even though she couldn’t tell you formally xx
@Isabelle did you ask? Xx
Yes I asked. He did a quick ultrasound on my tummy to have a look at the baby and then I just asked about the gender and he showed me! And then he did the transvaginal scan for the cervix after. He was so kind x
I’m assuming you would have to wait until your actual 20 week scan and not your cervical check, I have to my cervix checked too due to being full dilated then having an emergency c section x
