I asked the health visitor about this and she said they wouldn't worry at this age. They only do a referral when the child reaches 2.5 years old and isn't saying 15 words x
Mine just babbles too really. Also not worried. My eldest was a bit slower to speak too but now a chatty almost 4 year old. If they're babbling and/or saying a word, that's a good sign! See the other post on this in this group recently.
I really wouldn’t contact them yet, I was a nanny for 15 years before I had my baby. They all develop at different rates. I think if they’re not saying much by 2 then I’d worry. But honestly before 2 it’s quite normal not to have loads. Try not to compare to others too xx 😘
I'm in the same boat I was so worried then I think of how much they are learning at once I sort of thought my daughter was just working on Leaning other things more than talking
My first was slow to speak and I did contact a HV around 18 months just because speech and language lists were meant to be horrendous where I’m based and he called us both dada. He was evaluated by speech therapist just before two then had the classic ‘explosion of words’ and finally could say ‘mama’ at 23 months but still can’t pronounce some consonants now at 3.5 so he’s just started speech therapy properly to help with sounds. I would say if he’s not able to pronounce ‘mama’ by 18-24 months it would be worth following up then. Speech therapists won’t do much until they’re more like 2. You could practice some basic sign language with him x
My LO is 14 months and he just says “Archie” which is my cat’s name, loads of babbling but I was told he is delayed in communication as he is learning two languages, at home we speak my home language and English outside, I’m personally not worried, I’m sure they all do it in their own time and as long as they’re trying then that’s fine
