Childcare costs

Anyone know how childcare costs work as a part time worker? I’m due to go back to work next month and my daughter already receives free 15 hours. How will I be supported more by UC in terms of extra costs and possible deposit as some nursery’s require them

Also I’m a single parent so nursery is really my only option unless there’s of types of recommendations for childcare

You will have to pay for the food she has the days she in and if you speak to UC they can help with the deposit. If you need her to go in for more than the 15 hours then UC will pay the costs for so many months. Its worth speaking to your work coach

@Emma oh okay I’ll be doing a 6 month contract 25 hours a week, is that something they’ll help with and thanks I’ll drop uc a message :)

I work 16 hours and my husband works full time and my daughter is entitled to full funding so she goes Monday -Thursday and we are on universal x

@Kirsty how did UC help with costs upfront? As I’ll be doing 25 hours a week, how much would I be entitled to, would you know?x

You can sometimes claim back 85% fees with UC but they usually pay this upfront if that makes sense?

You need to speak to your work coach about this so they can put it in place for you

Childminders may work out cheaper as an alternative

@Emma Wdym upfront like I tell UC and they’ll get in touch with nursery or?

They would put the money into your account for you to pay

@Emma spoke to my work coach and they sent me a link to apply for childcare costs I’m eligible for tax free childcare sorry I’m being a pain I just don’t understand any of this stuff 😭😭 if my daughter turned 2 feb(2025) and started nursery last month is she eligible for the tax free childcare from now or September as they usually do it by terms right? I’m so sorry for all the questions I’m so new to this child care life thing and my work coach only sent a link and didn’t even explain anything 🙄

I have no idea either its so confusing you might be better off speaking to a nursery about that as they will know more. Some nurseries will start the funding sooner to help you back into work or whatever but i dont have clue

@Emma okay thanks for you help, I think I’ve figured most of it out will deffo check with nursery too, thank you x

Youre welcome, it is confusing my eldest is 2.5 and i had no idea either i just winged it haha x
