My daughter is 3 months and still has that startle reflex. She does well with the swaddle but I know she’s not a huge fan at times (tried breaking free). She is in a transitional swaddle sleep sack that works well for her most nights. I was trying to transition her out for daycare soon. It’s going to take patience with them. I don’t have 3-6 swaddles currently so I’ve been using the sleep sack as mentioned. I find that when she has a full tummy she’s more relaxed going to bed.
I’ve been swaddling at night and not during the day to try and get her used to without. I use a sleep sac with arms out during the day. Or just in bassinet with blanket only. And at night we will keep swaddling until she starts to roll!!
We stopped swaddling at about 10 weeks because we noticed she was wiggling too much that she was moving in her crib. Thankfully she didn't mind going straight to a sleep sack.
My little one never liked being swaddled. So I just got sleep sacks and she does well with those. Plus now she is trying to roll over.
I started at 8 weeks! Since he was about 4 weeks I tried to not swaddle him in the day (he was also a bad napper even with the swaddle so he’d have a lot of contact naps on me). We started using the “Newborn Sleep Sack Baby Swaddle,3-6 Months,3-Way Adjustable Wearable Blanket,100% Rayon Cotton Swaddling sleeping bag” off Amazon which can be a sleep sack or swaddle and at around 8 weeks we started leaving one arm out every now and then. It was difficult at first but it takes time so I would try maybe 2-3x a week. What I did was when he went for his first stretch of night sleep (usually his longest) I would swaddle his arms until we were ready to go to bed and then I’d unswaddle while he was sleeping! He is almost 12 weeks and I now use a regular sleep sack and he has gotten way better at sleeping without being swaddled, his startle reflux is still there but not as bad now. He has learned to try and self soothe by sucking on his hands
We started last night and let me tell you. It was awful. She literally moved all night long. Knocking out her binky and then crying. It was an endless cycle. Any tips and tricks appreciated
My daughter is barely two months and recently started enjoying being swaddled. I was going to stop when she started rolling over. But we can usually tell when she wants a swaddle or not so I think it depends on baby and parents
My son uses the halo transitional swaddle so his arms are out (which he’s always preferred) and his lower body is swaddled. He’s getting ready to reach 3 months so I’m trying to decide whether to keep with that or move to just a sleep sack. He still has a bit of startle reflex and is close to rolling over at times.
I stopped swaddling when my daughter learned how to roll from side to side. This is my 2nd child and I'll do the same then. The reflexes are just too much for her right now not to. She sleeps longer, this way too. Some babies hate the swaddle, lucky for me mine never had that problem. It definitely helps keeping her feeling snug when I lay her down .
