Ohhh actually it's the opposite! Aspirin is known to actually help prevent preeclampsia. A friend of mine lost 6 pregnancies in the 2nd trimester (one of them twins) before they figured out she needed a baby aspirin daily. Now she has 4 healthy kids! So sad!!! She had thicker blood and her vessels going to the placenta would clot and she'd lose the baby. This was back in the early 2000s. Now they're more knowledgeable. I actually decided on my own, without testing, to go ahead and just take a baby aspirin (OB said it would be smart due to my age and increased chance of preeclampsia) with both of my kids, had them at 37 and 39. No issues. It's just good to wait until after the first trimester to start.
I had 2 aspirins daily and a blood thinner injection every day!
I had my first at 37+2 because of mild preeclampsia. He was healthy as a horse, zero problems whatsoever! 😍🥰 After a week in the hospital (and 9 days after), my second came at exactly 32 weeks (they wait until 32, then I swear it was like they rolled me into the OR at 32 exactly due to severe preeclampsia + HELLP postpartum for me. She did 39 days in the NICU. This is also when they discovered that I have Factor 5 Leiden. It’s apparently an issue with clotting too much, which is odd because they couldn’t get me to STOP clotting (they already had bags in blood coming down for a transfusion when they FINALLY got me to stop. It was a mess). I had significant issues with all 3 of my births. I went septic after the first and had to go back to the hospital for another week +2 (Thank BOB they put me on the gynecological surgical floor so that my ex husband and our baby could stay with me the whole time!) Annnnnnnd then. Our 3rd. Our surprise baby! Our Covid baby. (contd.)
Our apocalyptic baby (in E.V.E.R.Y. A I’m sense of the word!!!😳😬😲🥴😭🤯😆🥰😍 I was actually hospitalized on the DAY that the WHO declared the pandemic! At 32 weeks!!!! I didn’t even get a CHANCE to quarantine before I got sick! (They actually published a case study on me medical journals because it actually induced pancreatitis in me! Two days prior, I had actually gone in because I just wasn’t feeling very good and the fact that my temp was slightly elevated. They took a ‘look’ at baby and monitored her the entire time. They said I was just fine. So was baby!!! Whew! 😅 My ‘fever’ maxed out at 100.4 and I only had it for literally, almost exactly 12 hours. So, they sent me home. 2 days later I was back and admitted with pancreatitis. 5 day hospital stay. Soooo, that was fun. 🙄😆 Anyway, the relevant part! After having a 32 weeker, they DEFINITELY wanted me on not one, but 2! baby aspirins/day, starting at exactly 8 weeks. After doing some reading on baby aspirin (contd.)
Thanks ladies to no your all k and your babies makes me feel a bit better but my head has been a mess all day x
I took those suckers RELIGIOUSLY. I think I *MIGHT* have missed two doses, the entire pregnancy. Which lasted until 38+2!!!!! Exactly one week LONGER then my firstborn! And that’s with having Covid!!! I feel VEEEEEEEEERY strongly that it was the baby aspirin that did that. It can be a SUPER good help so I would most definitely recommend taking it! I would imagine that there are. some possible risks to one or two people out there somewhere, but for the vast majority of folks, it’s perfectly safe. I would definitely recommend starting one (or two!) ASAP!!! It definitely can be super helpful and a great way to ward off bp problems. I would definitely recommend it as a tool to help avoid preeclampsia!!!!!!!
Two may be even better for you. I’d definitely talk to your OB about what their instructions or suggestions would be. Good luck mama!
‘Normal’ dose aspirin is not recommended for pregnancy, which is perhaps the warning you’re used to seeing. But when prescribed in pregnancy, it’s usually ‘low dose’ 75mg tablets that are recommended (2 per day mostly) as they do help to thin the blood. I was diagnosed with sticky blood last year so I’m now taking aspirin and also blood thinning injections daily during this pregnancy. I feel a lot more confident about things working out because of it (having experienced previous losses).
I have just been prescribed Aspirin by my doctor (due to my age) and I am 11 weeks pregnant
I am sorry to hear this. Please keep us updated.
