'Bottle propping' to feed?

Currently in my third trimester with twins and keep seeing things on social media about "bottle propping" for feedings twins, looks like instead of the parent holding the bottle you kind of prop it up on a muslin and leave the babies to it... does anyone have any experience of this/ is it recommended/ any advice on how best to do it and any extra bits to buy to make it safe? Thanks.

My twins were prem and were bottle propped in a side lying fashion in a twin pillow, I used Muslins rolled up and always stayed with them , you can just hold the bottles at the same time but post c-section it was a struggle to bend and hold two bottles at the same time for me , I wouldn't have been able to do it any other way , husband went back to work and one pair of hands , you could feed one at a time but then you would two babies on half hourly different schedules which is tiring xx

It’s not recommended but necessary sometimes for twins. One of my twins needed to be burped every once so I had to bottle prop. I’d just say make sure you don’t leave them. You should still be watching them and staying in reach

Don't think it's recommended, but it sure did make love easier! We bottle propped early on once they were good with bottle feeds. We always put them at a low angle to help with flow. Only thing was that if they fell asleep before finishing it would slowly leak out. So we ended up with a lot of stained blankets and onesies, but idk how we would've survived without doing that. You'll learn that you'll do what you have to at times to keep yourself sane, but also make sure they'll taken care of and happy. Good luck!!!

Not recommended but I do it! Only supervised though

Thanks everyone, that's all really helpful. To clarify I didn't mean I would leave them alone at any point, in case anyone was worrying! 😂😂 x

We never did it, we put them in bouncy chairs facing us, and then sat in the middle with our back against the sofa and held a bottle in each hand. Simple, and safe x

It works up until a point, mine now like to ‘help’ with their feeds so smash it away in an attempt to hold the bottle 🙄 however the twin feeding pillow is an absolute life saver and makes tandem feeding so much easier!

It’s a lifesaver! I have 5 month old twins and a 3 year old so sometimes it’s a must. we use their twin pillows to elevate them so they aren’t completely flat and a muslin. We only do it supervised and still stop them to burp them.

I’ve done it since they were about 2 months but under supervision so the milk didn’t pool or the bottle didn’t fall away. I used rolled up burp cloths and laid them sideways on the twin feeding pillow. Eventually I used a product called Furnabell which has a bib to catch any spillage and it can be kept upright at the right angle. My twins are 9 months and they still use it. Once they’re more stable and able to hold the bottle without it slipping I can set them up and go do something quick like put their laundry away. I usually check to see they’re not being fussy first before going to do something else. It was definitely better than having to hold a bottle the whole time, especially as their amounts increased.

It’s not recommended & I never did it, both in bouncers or car seats if out & about either side of me. They both had reflux so needed to be able to pick them out easily to be burped or if they were sick, we also did paced feeding to help with the reflux.
