Positive induction stories ☺️

Hey guys, I’m expecting my first baby any day now (hopefully)! They’ve advised for me to be induced due to baby being on the larger side, I’ve postponed this slightly to try and give my body a chance to go into labour naturally but the induction date is approaching and I can feel my anxiety building so any tips or positive experiences you can share will be appreciated x

Good on you for advocating for what you want! You might like this page for resources for decision making https://www.sarawickham.com/topic-resources/post-term-pregnancy-and-induction-of-labour-resources/ And especially this one about large babies: https://www.sarawickham.com/articles-2/induction-for-big-baby/ There are lots of people who have had less than ideal birth scenarios from inductions, but if you only want positive stories you can search this website by birth type https://thepositivebirthcompany.com/blog/tag/induction

I had to be induced after my waters broke and nothing was progressing. I had the pessary which worked after about 6 hours, I started to get some contractions. It’s definitely not a fast process but for me it wasn’t awful. I was induced at 10am Monday and little one arrived 3:22am Tuesday. Everyone is different so the timing might be different for you but do be prepared for a wait around.

I had a very easy induction! It was my first baby, I had the pessery at 6pm and woke up at 1am with very mild contractions (less than period pains). I had those for about 20 mins and suddenly ramped up to be more painful for the next 15 minutes (6/10 pain scale). At this point I called a midwife for help with the contractions and she saw the baby's head was already crowning! Two pushes and he was out. I didn't have a chance for any pain relief but didn't find that it hurt but that may have been the adrenaline. I don't remember feeling extreme pain during labour. I didn't have any tears or need stitches, just a graze which did cause bleeding for 5 weeks but nothing too bad. There was under 40 minutes between my first contraction and the baby was out, and then another 10 or so mins to deliver my placenta. They said next time I might cough and baby will just fall out Everyone I know who has been induced told me it would be longer and more painful but it may not be the case for you

Be prepared to be in hospital for at least 48 hours or more depending on how it goes, it can definitely be a positive experience for some but also be prepared it may not be, especially if you may be recommending a drip, you may have to have epidural obvs your choice meaning you may not be able to labour as you would like to but, just go with the flow and you will meet your baby soon whatever way it goes x

My waters broke and I held on a couple of days as I really didnt want to be induced either. But when I finally did I had to have the hormone drip.. and in fairness it was all very smooth. They started the drip at 5.50pm and baby boy was born at 9.53, contractions ramped up fairly quickly and luckiky for me it didnt take as much pushing as with my first who was a natural spontaneous labour. So definitely positive. Id been put off after hearing lots of bad stories ! Good luck! Xx

I had a positive induction at 40+3. Pessary went in 8pm, contractions started 2am and I slept through them until 8am or so. In the morning I used Tens machine then they started ramping up. Stupid midwife didn’t believe I was in active labour as I was only 2cm so she wouldn’t give me gas and air. My water broke around 4pm and I was taken to labour ward she was born 5pm! I had a tear and bleed but otherwise she came out naturally with just gas and air

I had a good induction story! I had a bad experience leading up to the induction but I would definitely get induced everytime if I could. I had my baby at 36+5 and was induced at 36+4, I had the gel at 3.15am and was contracting on and off through the night and was in active labour come the afternoon. I then had my baby at 12.07am the next morning 🥹 I preferred being induced as I felt like everything was in my control. I was worried about it hurting I’m not gonna lie but it wasn’t that bad lol🤣 I couldn’t recommend an induction anymore x

I was induced because my waters leaked on my due date. Due to lack of beds I wasn't induced for ages (confirmed they leaked t 11pm of the 4th and induced at 4pm on the 5th). They put the pessery in and 6 hours later I was in 3 in 10 contractions. I didn't progress after 8 hours and I wish I had asked for another one to soften my cervix and my cervix clearly didn't want to move at all. Mine ended in an emergency c section as the drip caused my daughter to poop. Not a bad induction experience, I just wish the ending had been a VBAC and not emergency c section. In the UK you have a 40% chance of it ended in c section though. Failed induction are insanely common which they never used to be, so God knows what's happened.

I was in the same boat, my little girl was measuring big and I also had gestational diabetes. I had my waters broken at 6pm and she was here by midnight 😊 I had a water birth with gas and air!! I also agreed to have sweeps which got me 2cm dilated prior to my induction date. Due to this I only needed my waters broken. Everyone’s different with there experiences of course. I went through a rabbit hole of looking at bad stories, hearing it’s more painful then going into labour naturally etc. However for me it was relaxed and controlled. Good luck girl! 🩷🩷🩷
