Cradle cap help!

My 4 month old has real bad cradle cap, I've been bathing him almost everyday using Capasal shampoo prescribed by the doctor and i brush out the dry scalp with a soft brush. During the day i lather his head in coconut oil. It just dried up again. He's also started itching it so keeps making himself bleed. The doctor has prescribed hydrocortisone which i am hesitant to use as he's so young. I've heard dentinox cradle cap shampoo is really however, I cannot find it anywhere. Please give me advice i feel so sorry for my little baby

Oh little one must be really struggling 😔 we’ve been using mustela cradle cap cream and shampoo, but his is not so bad, and I don’t know if it will help you. Hopefully someone whe went through this can help

Sorry I know you mentioned you used the coconut oil. Not sure if you used the kokoso one. I hope you find a treatment that works for your baba

My sons was terrible and hydrocortisone cleared it up as it was getting infected and weeping. I actually found the brush made it worse. I now use coconut oil to keep it under control and it's so so much better.

I had used Vaseline, I put a good thick layer of Vaseline on my daughters head, left it for about an hour, and used a nit comb to take it off, it worked like a dream, but I’m not sure if it would help with being abit broken, I would definitely try and recommend it, even try and put a wee bit where there’s no scabs or blood, put it on for 20 mins and then use a nit comb to take it off x

Oh goodness, your LO must be suffering so much :( I’m so sorry 😢 I’ve not used it before, but I actually saw Dentinox cradle cap shampoo in Boots the other day, so you should try there! And have you tried breast milk? I’ve been using my breast milk on any tiny thing with my little girl.. eye infection, nappy rash, body rashes, baby acne… etc. I don’t know if it’ll help, but it’s worth a shot! Also, maybe bathing every day might be drying out his skin.. it could be that being in the room during a warm bath, the steam may help soften the skin? I’ve never tried it but perhaps you could look into a calamine solution - whether as a bath or to wipe across their head to soothe the broken skin? I’d look into it first though, and check with your health visitor too.

I would honestly use the hydrocortisone, we’ve been using a tiny bit on my son’s eczema when it flares up really badly and it’s pretty much gone the next day. I’d just use it a couple of times to try and get the inflammation under control and then you can revert to more natural/gentle remedies 💕

I use castor oil and virgin pressed coconut oil and it helped clear my baby within a week

Oh, dear, that looks quite inflamed and sore. I understand coconut oil is helpful for some, but given how raw it appears, it might be drying. Hydrocortisone cream might be beneficial, and perhaps olive oil would be a gentler option for now. My LO had cradle cap briefly, and Dentinox cleared it up quickly. You might consider purchasing some from Amazon. I hope your little one feels better soon.

Both my babies have had cradle cap, though haven’t seemed to be bothered by it like your little one. I’ve used olive oil in their hair, let it sit for 30mins-an hour and then gently combed it out in the bath. It comes up really easily. Olive oil is meant to be anti inflammatory, hydrating and good for things like eczema so that’s why I’ve used that over coconut oil. I agree that maybe don’t use the hydrocortisone cream yet. If it gets to the point where baby is just miserable and you’ve tried the more gentle approaches then maybe but I’d try avoid it.

Happy cappy on Amazon it cleared my baby’s head in 2 uses. And it was inexpensive. It suds it up and the bristle brush scrapes it off. No oil or creams necessary

I was advised by health visitor to use coconut oil but it made it worse. Try stop using it for a couple days see if makes a difference. La Roche possay has a body wash that can be used in hair for cradle cap and is good for the most sensitive skin. Looks really sore must be uncomfortable, hope gets better soon 💙

Have you tried soaking the head in breast milk? I know that stuff is precious! But if you have any to spare, that stuff is a multipurpose product x
