I’ve had a few extra growth scan appointments and baby boy is currently on the 95th centile (not sure if that’s spelt right)and is showing he is on the big side. The doctor today said that if he continues to stay the same then they will talk to me about options such as induction or c section. Can anyone who had had either induction or c section tell me their story and how it went for them because I’m not sure what to do as this is my first pregnancy.

Learn more about our guidelines.I had to have an induction since my baby didn’t wanted to come out lol so I was induced at 41 weeks and tbh it wasn’t traumatic at all and I love how everyone treated us and how it went so it’s pretty much the same as active labor they will give you different options on how to start the induction and at the end is your decision about how to approach every situation just make sure to communicate your desires (if want an specific birth or some non negotiables) and try to ask as many questions if you are unsure! Try to be as calm as you can remember we were made to bring babies it’s amazing how our body works!🥰 hope it helps if you have any other questions let me know !
I had an induction with my first and have scheduled another for my second for this exact reason. Less babies get stuck naturally with shoulder dystopia than babies who are induced. Which baffles me but there’s a stat out there somewhere. It’s entirely up to you. I loved my induction. My thing is I’d rather heal from a natural birth than a section so I opted for an induction. But induction does put the risk of section up by 40%. You can decide not to do anything and wait for baby boy to come on his own. Do some googling and ask your midwife any questions but ultimately do what you think is right for you. 🫶🏻
Hey, i was told my baby was really big and went for an induction because c section really scared me. I was induced for 5 days and my body just wasn't ready, ended up on the hormone drip but then his heart rate dropped so we got rushed for an emergency c section anyway.
Induction felt kind of invasive and un natural and j just got annoyed that it took sooo long and didnt even work, the actual c section was OK! Everyone was so calm, it was super quick and couldn't feel anything!
However, the recovery was then quite hard and it upset me that I couldn't really hold my baby for a couple days due to pain.
If I'm honest now, I kind of wish I'd just tried to give birth naturally. Baby ended up being not as big as they said as well xxx
Hope that isn't a negative message! 💜
It's so hard because only you can make the decision, try speak to lots of people about their experiences and then do what feels right. If I have another baby, i don't think I'd go for a growth scan and I think I'd just wait to go into labour naturally and trust that your body wouldn't make a baby that you couldn't birth 💗
Yesss I agree with @Paige this was my first baby and it was good I was able to deliever naturally being induced I’ve heard the c section recovery is really hard on mom !
My baby was measuring big too. I decided not to have an induction until at least my due date because I wasn’t convinced she would be big (I was wrong). Went in for induction at 40+2 weeks. Induction failed (was in for 4 days of trying to induce me) and I ended up having a c section at 40+6.
C section was so relaxed, honestly nothing to worry about x
I had an induction which ended in an emergency c-section. Personally I wish I opted for the c-section from the start to save myself all the hassle. The recovery was so much better than I thought it would be and I was able to go for a short walk on day 4 and was walking around the house as soon as I got home from the hospital. My midwife did say she wasn’t surprised as a lot of inductions end up in emergency c-sections x
I was induced with my first due to him measuring big, went in for my induction at 37+3
At 11am I had my first gel around 3pm my hind water went so they would not give me any more gel and just monitored the baby. 9pm I started to have contractions nothing to bad and was given 2 paracetamol by 12am the contractions were intense and I asked to be checked and was 8cm baby was born at 12:38am healthy and not big at all he was 6lb11. Recovery was fairly easy.
So I originally wanted to have a natural delivery at the birth centre. Was signed off to do so at 34 weeks however the baby had other ideas. He had still had not arrived by 42 weeks and so I was induced. This was despite him being cephalic / head down and engaged from 32 weeks onwards. The induction failed at 5cm dilated due to baby’s head being slightly tilted and in the wrong position which meant he was not putting sufficient pressure on my cervix - never picked up on any NHS / private scans. So despite the induction not being painful and still being very mobile throughout it - it was a waste of time. So I elected to do a c-section at that stage. The c-section was a breeze and recovery was fairly straightforward. I’ve had friends had far more complicated vaginal deliveries with much longer recoveries and then friends with straightforward deliveries and even less recovery time. You just don’t know how things are going to pan out sometimes even with the best intentions and prep.
Also when he arrived he was 10lbs 2oz - I was relieved I had elected to do the c-section in the end. So scans prior to birth were correct in that he would be in 90th percentile range. They thought he would be slightly larger - at 10 and a half pounds but they were not far off.
My baby was measuring big, I had reduced movements and GD so had a stretch and sweep which did nothing then monitored over a few days and was induced. Baby was distressed and I wasn’t in labour so they advised a c section as putting me in labour would distress baby more. My c section was fine and recovery excellent. Was it the right decision to have an induction who knows but my baby arrived happy and healthy although he did have fluid on the lungs and was in nicu for a few hours. I think as first time mums it’s hard to know what is right and wrong but you will know what feels right for you and baby.
I was Inducted due to my waters breaking and no contractions. I was saying from the beginning “if I will ever have to be inducted I will ask for c section” and then on the 39week appointment that doctor said that it’s always better to try natural then c section. And I fucking regret it. I’ve had emergency c section after 12h of contractions on a drip. It was so fast And panic (something was wrong with baby’s heart rate). Never again. Next time I’m going straight to c section!
My boy was measuring on the 99th percentile, went for a growth scan at 32 weeks and he was 7.5lbs. I opted for a C-Section and it was absolutely amazing
