Looks like baby is swallowing but I agree with above comment about latch being off. Your hands supporting back of head could be preventing head from flopping back enough to get a good latch, at the beginning I tended to support neck rather than head ans rested side of head on my wrist.
Hi , thanks guys! We know latch isn't great she has a tongue tie which is getting assessed at end of May and we get infant feeding support to try to improve her latch but they've told me to look out for swallowing and I don't know how to tell! We see a lactation consultant each week.
Swallowing will be pretty obvious. You should hear gulping like sounds and / or visually see swallowing motions. Another good indicator would be wet and dirty nappies xx
Ah fair enough, to be honest I found it difficult to tell when my daughter was swallowing in the early days, it's supposed to be when the jaw drops alongside a swallowing sound/gulp. That was never obvious for me but I was reassured by her multiple wet nappies a day. If you're seeing lactation consultant maybe they can point out more obvious signs while baby is latched?
I can't quite confirm if she is swallowing. However, please don't be offended, but I believe he latch is a little off. Chin should be well planted into the breast, and the nose should be fully visible. So, the head should be slightly tilted backwards. You'd then be able to see her swallow clearly. I hope i have not overstepped, and I apologise if I cause offence by this. This was not my intention. Keep up the good work Mama❤️
