Yes my toddler was only needing about 9.5 hours of sleep a day total! And would wake up almost every night and be awake for 3-4 hours. we worked with a sleep consultant and changed his routine I had to limit his nap to 30 minutes (which probably won’t work for you since you’re in in daycare) and we had to put him down at 8:30 and get him up at 6:30 it was tough for a few weeks but after following the schedule we were able to lengthen his sleep need and get rid of the split night and now he’s gets 10.5-11 hours of sleep a day
@Sarah wow so his overall sleep improved even when shortening the nap. This is so interesting. We’ve worked with a sleep consultant in the past and hilariously eventually she had to throw up her hands because my daughter’s sleep made no sense - we broke her 😂
@Sally yes it weird to think a shorter nap would help but he sleep a lot better at night when he has less day time sleep. I thought our sleep consultant was going to give up as well she told us we were her hardest case lol she had to talk with other sleep consultants to figure out a plan and it was alot of trail and error. We are also planning on seeing a neurologist soon just to discuss his low sleep need
@Sarah im in the same boat, doctor said he would refer to sleep medicine if it didn’t improve soon. I’ll have to experiment a bit and see what happens. Thanks for sharing!
@Sally have you had your little ones iron checked? I just remember we had to add liquid iron to my toddlers diet for a month and i think it helped along with the schedule changes. Apparently low iron can cause restless legs so that could help with the middle of the night insomnia
@Sarah for the shorter nap do you wake your LO from the nap daily?
@Vanessa yes I do wake him I know it sounds crazy to wake a sleeping toddler but it’s really the only way he sleeps through the night
Yeah, my toddler has decided she won’t be going to be at the earliest, before midnight and on bad nights 3 or 4 AM. It’s usually around 2. We cosleep and I’ll wake up to her playing with her books or legos or something, but at least she lets me sleep I guess, makes me nervous for starting school though.
