Lump in breast and hot to touch

I have been weaning my child off breastmilk as she’s almost a year old now. She’s feeding less but still regularly feeding and I have replaced feeds wirh formula gradually (we are up yo 2 formula feeds a day). I woke up with an awful lump and heavy feeling in my breasts which hasn’t went away after feeding for an hour. It’s tender and hot to touch and painful. I feel clammy and exhausted and hot myself. Has anyone else had these symptoms before?

I had this exact when my wee one was 7 weeks and it was mastitis. I got antibiotics from the dr

My partners aunty had this not long ago. She hasn’t breastfed for over 10 years, initially thought it was dreaded cancer but it turned out one of the ducts had an infection. I’d definitely ring GP just to be sure 😊

It’s mastitis. Get antibiotics ASAP! It can very quickly turn nasty. The painful lump can just be a blocked duct, which can go away on its own (cold compress and ibuprofen helps) but I would say if you’re feeling clammy, exhausted and hot then it’s already developed into mastitis and you need antibiotics.

I’ve had mastitis 4 times and the 3 rd time and 4th time it wiped me out and I had no energy at all. I would recommend getting checked by doctor /nurser practitioner. Hot compress on your boob, and pump some out if it’s painful. Sometimes baby won’t want to feed from the effected boob because it taste salty. Just lots of rest. And make sure your baby is emptying boob at feeds. I know it’s hard to tell as they are so distracted at this age. Good luck to all who get it and keep on breastfeeding
