Best schools in St Albans

Hi ladies, we are thinking of moving to st Albans from London in a year or two and hence I would love to get some recommendations on the best areas for families, what are the best schools? Our little one will be starting primary school in 2 years. I have heard lots of great things about st albans but unfortunately don't know anyone with children who live there. Thanks in advance !

Hi, I recently moved to St Albans mainly for school. The primary schools I looked at and like are Alban City School and Aboyne Lodge, both are in the centre so depends if you want to live more central to the city centre or further out. There are amazing schools all around and I hear you can’t really go wrong with any of the schools in St Albans. Some things you might want to consider are if the infant/junior years are split in two schools, funding for the school (I find 2 form schools have more funding so better resources) check resources eg music, PE, clubs etc. There are some ofsted outstanding schools that are split infant and junior which are amazing but I prefer all years in one school as if you have a couple of children you have to consider the logistics of having to drop off/pick up. send me a msg if you would like to chat more. I have just been through the whole process with two kids in reception and year 2. I hope this info helps x

Hi Lily, thank you! Yes I will definitely reach out to get some more tips. We are just at the beginning of the journey in looking for a house/ school so considering lots of options which we really need to narrow down.

You may also like to consider Harpenden. It's one stop further on the train, has a vibrant high street and you literally can't go wrong with schools as they are all amazing at primary and secondary (which takes the pressure off of finding a house within a specific tiny catchment and then having to move house for your secondary school catchment). It may not work for you, but worth a thought...

Hey, I’ve lived in St. Albans my whole life and demand for housing in the school areas is extremely high (which is why house prices are through the roof!!)… especially in the good secondary school areas, such as Beaumont. The Fleetville/Camp area is extremely popular for young families with multiple good primary schools. It’s not far from the town centre but has lots of shops and parks etc. There is also the Cell Barnes Lane area which has multiple primary schools including Samual Ryder Academy which goes from pre-school all the way to 6th Form. If you want to talk at all about it, drop me a message xx
