I would say I found my son (born Dec 2024) was sleeping on his back with his head to the left facing me in the side cot. So I spun him 180 so to look at me he had to turn his head right. Stopped his flat spot getting bad.
@Sarah okay thank you so much hon 🫶🏼🫶🏼 I will definitely try more tummmy time
Speak to your gp/health visitor or pediatrician about it. He has brachycephaly and may need to be referred to orthotics for a helmet to correct. Depending on the area nhs may provide it or not, depends on the contact really. Feel free to message me if needed x
@Marta I’m going to physio on Tuesday because he had torticollis but it’s just not improving idk what to do because when j went to ten doctors they didn’t do anything km so stressed
I’m an orthotist but currently on mat leave. Some physios may be able to refer to the department. The torticollis may not help but usually causes a lateral flat head and the neck is tight to one side. This is purely cosmetic so don’t worry, that’s the reason some trusts don’t have the funding for the helmets
I went to the GP about this recently - my baby has a flat back of the head. He checked him over, confirmed the skull hadn’t fused too early and said though it would probably always be a bit flat, it will get better with time and you’d only be referred if there was an issue with the skull. He said helmets and such are a very American idea and aren’t proven to work.
Both my babies got a slightly flat spot from sleeping (and the same rubbed off hair patch in the middle). My daughter is 3 tomorrow and her head is round, it sorts itself out by about 1. Just keep enjoying tummy time, baby wearing, sleep on their sides if they like that.
