How many naps a day is your baby on?

Just wondering what some people’s routines are like.. How many naps a day is your baby on? How old are they? And what times roughly do they usually nap in the day and then go to bed? (And do they sleep through?) My boy is on 3 naps at the minute, he’s just past 6 months, but the last few days he’s been fighting his naps so not sure if he’s ready to move to 2 naps… he usually wakes between 6:30-7, so then had his first nap around 9:30 for 30 mins, second nap around 12:30/12:45 and I wake him by 2 if he’s not awake already, then third nap around 4:30 for no longer than 20 mins then bedtime around 7:30. Today I tried to get him to have his morning nap but he was refusing in the pram, tired in his cot and no, then took him out in the car then then finally fell asleep at 11:10am when we was in the pram walking round Costco. Then I’ve just put him down for a nap now (he’s still trying to get himself off to sleep) so he’ll only have these 2 naps today so I’m hoping he will still be good sleeping through the night (he does usually wake 1 or sometimes 2 times in the night)

I think 9.30 is quite late really. Probably overtired so that’s why you are only getting a half hour nap. Of awake at 6.30 I’d try put down around 8.30. 2nd nap around 12.30 (depending on how long the first nap was). Then maybe a last nap 3.30/4? Also does baby self settle? I’m finding if he settles himself down he’s more likely to rouse around the half hour mark and put himself back to sleep now x

My lb is now on 2… we’ve cut out/prolonged the 2nd nap until around 1ish and he usually sleeps for a couple of hours… he’ll then be awake until 7pm and sleeps through until 6.. I did find giving him a little more dinner to fill him up before his final bottle helps too as he was waking around 4 x

@Amy I wake him up after 30 minutes myself, as he sleeps better in the night by the routine we have in the day, I just wasn’t sure if he was ready for 2 naps or not, I usually do a 2.5 hour wake window so if he does wake at 6:30 I put down at 9, but sometimes the wake window might go abit longer towards 3 hours as he’s just not ready sometimes.. he does self settle now as we did gentle sleep training as he wasn’t able to do that beforehand, when he goes for his middle nap he usually sleeps for about 1-1.5 hours depending on when he falls asleep as I wake him at 2 so that we can fit in a third small cat nap before bed, it’s so hard knowing if he needs to drop a nap😩 thank you so much for replying! X

@Stacey how old is your little one? What time is his first nap? And do you wake up after a certain time or let him sleep till he wakes? How long is his biggest wake window and does he get really grumpy? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just not sure whether to drop to 2 naps! He’s only had 2 today, he slept 11:08-11:43 and woke up himself, then 3:53-4:55 but I woke him up so he could have a 2.5 hour wake window before bed, usually he would sleep longer on his later nap though but I didn’t manage to get him down till that time today x

He’s just turned 7 months… he wakes around 6-6.30 and is awake until around 9-9.30, he’ll usually sleep for an hour- an hour and a half depending on when he wakes up.. he’ll then go back down for a nap around half 12-1ish and will sleep for a couple of hours.. I then keep him awake until half 6-7ish although he does sometimes have a half hour nap just before dinner if he’s really grumpy and restless… he has a 20 month old brother and a 7 year old brother that keeps him entertained and happy a lot of the time, I try my best to change up activities and rotate his toys so he’s entertained for longer x

We've been doing 2 naps for about a week, he'll be 7 months on Tuesday. Wake up 7:30am Nap 1 10am-11:45 Nap 2 2:40pm-4:30 Bedtime 7:30pm asleep 7:45pm ish Sleeps through.

@Stacey awww bless that’s lovely! Thank you xx

@Tanya that sounds like a perfect routine!! How did you know he was ready for 2 naps?

Seemingly overnight he was taking ages to go to sleep, like an hour longer than normal and it happened for a few days. So I thought I'd just try a longer first wake window and see if he could nap long enough that we could possibly manage just 2 naps. Bedtime got really late as well with his longer wake windows, it was hard to fit in nap 3 anymore. I just tried it and he ended up doing 2 longer naps. Sometimes nap 2 is a bit short but he copes ok if I put him to bed a little early, no earlier than 7pm for us so as not to cause early wakes. https://huckleberrycare.com/blog/3-to-2-nap-transition

My little boy has just turned 8 months. He wakes around 8am. First nap around 11.30am for 1 hr - 1 hr 30 mins. Second nap around 5pm for 1hr - 1 hr 30 mins and bedtime between 9.30pm and 10pm
