You don't have to accept their policy at all if you don't want to. I'm 40 + 2 attempting VBAC and haven't even received much pushback from my hospital. It's ridiculous that where you live makes a difference in the care/advice you receive. I have a catch-up with the senior midwife on the phone on Tues to just discuss what happens next if i continue to refuse induction at 41 weeks and and after that, they are happy for me to continue to 42. My first labour started spontaneously at 41 + 4. Considering you only want a few days, i think you should stand your ground personally and give yourself the extra few days
I am aware I can refuse, I just don't want to be left without my birthing partner.. My mum would do it but she is on childcare duty to have my other two when the time comes. My birthing partner goes away on the 5th, so I want enough time for induction/recovery etc beforehand before she has to go.. my first was 8 days late, and my second was 3 days late, so I want to give my body the chance to go into spontaneous labour a few days after 40 weeks also
I think if you just tell them what you need, it shouldn't be a problem, particularly as they have said they'd prefer to induce at 40 weeks so they'd be keen to get you in
Just because the hospital policy says something doesn't mean you can't go outside it. Basically, they have to offer an induction whenever their policy says but they can't make you come in. You're well within your rights to request an induction at a later date or refuse it altogether x
