Sippy cups

Starting weaning soon. Are sippy cups ok to use or do I need a cup with a straw? Also, how much water should I be giving baby when he starts weaning? Baby has always been bf. How do I give him the sippy cup? Also, want to start giving him expressed breast milk, is it best to give this in a sippy cup or a bottle

I’m pretty sure babies under 1 shouldn’t get water, their kidneys aren’t ready for it. Just stick to milk for drinks/nutrition and food for fun

@Sophie not sure where you’re based, but in the UK it’s advised to give water along side weaning. With my little one it was super important to get him to have water to avoid constipation. A sippy cup is fine! As long as it says it’s for your child’s age then give it a try. It’ll likely take a bit of practice before they get good at drinking from it, we used a small bottle for a while to help him have enough water.

@Natalie thank you Natalie! Our HV and a nurse who done a talk on weaning at a baby class I attended (massage class, not sure why she came🤣) told us to avoid it! Good to know 🥰 Apologies to incognito for my misinformation!!
