@Omolade awwww thank you! Yeah I was very naive, not realising night time training was a whole different ball game lol. Okay that’s good to know, so is it best to Follow their lead I.e, after prompting if they say they don’t need to wee, don’t force it? Also how are you navigating when outside? Are you using a travel potty? Was that another challenge or it was the same? Sorry for all the questions 😂🙈
Tbh when we were placing my daughter on the potty every half an hour we ended up back the basics a month later, because she just started refusing to go. What we did was let her learn her body language. We had full day of accidents the next day she started going on the potty herself, we went commando for a few days then we went into shorts and pants no underwear, a month later we added underwear. She goes on the potty herself now sometimes i am in the kitchen and i can hear her doing her business 😃 , we just need to pull her pants up once she is done as we are still working on that. We still have days when she has accidents especially when we go to kids cafe or nursery where she is busy playing thats when we ask her the question . She used to be great at pooing on the potty and now she is resisting. So potty training takes a long time. We have been training since November. When you think you have finally cracked it they start going into resistance mode 😂
Don’t be sorry! I also had loads of questions. We read the Oh Crap book and it was super helpful. Yeah if you prompt and they say no, how you respond depends on how sure you are that they need a wee. If they’ve been good at letting you know, just remind them to let you know when they need a wee. Then prompt again in a few minutes. If they’ve been having accidents or letting you know when they’re already weeing, you may need to enforce it but 2 year olds can be very strong willed lol. We don’t do rewards for using the potty but we do some positive and negative reinforcement. We have a travel potty for going out. We make sure she wees before we leave and when we arrive. We’re yet to do a long journey since she’s been out of nappies though!
@Omolade we’re yet to start fully but I just read this and thought “omds of course, long journeys” 😭😁 completely forgot about that part 😭😭 oh boy
@Rasma 😂😂😂 we had a great two days and then a day of him peeing on the floor. But it seems like we’re back on track. Thank for the tips
@Omolade thank you for this tip, I’ve been honouring his answers and he seems to be doing well. I only started potty training when he was telling me he was wee’ing in his nappy so I guess that has helped.
@Christel there’s so much to think of right? 😭
@incognito Much more than I realised 😭😭
@Christel haha every step has honestly being much easier than I imagined. I really worked myself up the days and weeks before we started but it was better than my imagination. I’m sure longer journeys will be fine, and hey there’s no shame in popping a nappy on for a long journey 🫣
They’ll need prompting for several weeks(maybe even months) after they are potty trained. We are 3 weeks in and doing really well. Most days she has no accidents during the day (we haven’t night trained), but we still prompt every hour or so. She’s very good at telling us when she needs a wee but sometimes if she’s engrossed in an activity, we have to prompt. There’s usually resistance (read tantrums), but 9 of 10 times that we prompt, she actually does a wee.
